Face Masks Now OPTIONAL For All Schools
Barrier face masks will be optional (personal choice) at all buildings, including Early Childhood, elementary and middle schools, effective February 22 when classes resume.
This protocol coincides with action taken on Thursday, February 17, by the Johnson County Board of Commissioners, in its role as the Board of Public Health, to revoke the public health order (No. 001-21) requiring barrier face masks for elementary and middle school buildings.
Due to federal transportation regulations, masks are still required for all students and staff on school buses and district vehicles.
Could masks be temporarily required later in the school year?
The Board of Education held a special meeting on Friday morning, February 18, to discuss barrier face mask protocols. The board took action and approved a threshold for when a temporary mask requirement would be necessary for a school.
Effective February 22 and for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year, total COVID-related absences must remain below five percent (5%). In the event that an individual building (school) exceeds this threshold, that building (only that building) will temporarily return to the mask requirement and will need to drop below five percent (5%) of COVID-related absences for one week before moving to optional masking.
Looking Ahead
Families and staff are encouraged to remain diligent in conducting a personal health assessment each day. Individuals who suspect they are ill (i.e., fever, chills, cough, etc.) and are not feeling well should stay home.
The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) will not provide contact tracing of COVID-19 cases at this time. To that end, JCDHE is focusing efforts on infected individuals. This means the school district is not providing close contact information to the health department and JCDHE will not notify staff/students if they are considered a close contact from a school exposure. Any recommended quarantines would be through families/staff who self-identify their own individual cases.
Thank you for what you are doing to help keep our students in school during this challenging time.

Guidelines for MTMS Track & Field
2022
Any student who has not participated in a sport, or completed athletic paperwork, for the 2021-22 school year must turn in a completed KSHSAA Physical (dated after May 1, 2021) and a Parent Consent form. These forms are available on the MTMS Website, under Athletics/Activities. Athletes and their parents must also complete online forms (Concussion Form, Acknowledgement of Risk, and Student-Athlete Code of Conduct) through Skyward. The student and parent must access their own Skyward account to complete these forms. While in Skyward, parents will need to also update and complete the Emergency Contact information. All Athletes must pay Catastrophic Insurance and Activity Participation Fees. Please contact the office if you have any questions about the required paperwork or fees. Students are not allowed to practice until paperwork and fees are completed and turned into the office.
1. Practice begins on Tuesday, March 22nd There will not be practice during spring break. Practice ends at 4:30. Athletes should be picked up from practice no later than 4:45pm at the north doors of MTMS.
2. Attitude and effort will determine the success of your season. Your coaches and teammates expect you to give your best effort in practice and in meets.
3. Attendance. Unexcused absences may cause you to be removed from the team. Please communicate absences in advance via email to Coach Ferrell.
4. Come prepared for cold weather. Practices are often held outdoors in less than ideal weather conditions. (Sweats, gloves, hat)
5. Never leave valuables unattended in the locker room. All valuables should be locked in a locker.
6.. Practice may be cancelled due to weather conditions. This will be posted ASAP.
7. KSHSAA regulations prohibit athletes from competing in any track related activity outside of the school sponsored meets while in season. This includes “Fun Runs.”
8. Eligibility checks will be conducted during fourth quarter to ensure that academics remain a priority of student-athletes
9. Spikes are not required to participate, but a good pair of running shoes is recommended.
10. To sign up for track visit the track website on the school website and sign up on the correct form: https://www.usd232.org/Page/4564

MVHS Jaguar ADP
Students who are involved in sports, or who might be interested in getting involved next year, should strongly consider signing up for Jaguar ADP for the summer. This program is an excellent way to get fit and train with your Mill Valley coaches all summer long. We are excited to once again offer this opportunity to our incoming freshmen and middle school students. Last summer we had over 800 student athletes who chose Jaguar APD as their summer workout program, and the results were astounding. We look forward to seeing you and your fellow students athletes at Mill Valley this summer.
Please click on the link below for details regarding this incredible summer training opportunity.

If your student has received or when he/she receives these immunizations please send documentation to the MTMS school nurse. Documentation includes-records from health care provider, copy of immunization card, or a copy of the bill with name of immunization and date received noted on the bill.

Both of these vaccinations can be given at the same time.

Attendance
When reporting your student absent due to illness please leave a brief description of symptoms such as stomach issues, headache, fever, strep, flu. It helps to track illnesses in our building. If you say “not feeling well” you will receive a follow-up call from the school nurse to gather symptoms.
It is district policy to keep your student home until symptom free/fever free for 24 hours without medication. It will help to prevent the spread of illness.
