Spirit Bear

The Kermode Bear also know as the Spirit Bear, lives in British Columbia, Canada. It is considered one of the most endangered animals with only about 400 remaining. The Kermode Bear is a rare version of the Black Bear, it is lighter and can have white fur. The Kermode Bear got its name from the scientist that discovered and studied it in 1905, Francis Kermode.

The spirit bear is a black bear but with lighter fur. These unique spirit ,species are known for their white or creamed color fur with some yellow and orange coloration at the back. Any other color on the spirit bear is picked up when it walks or fishes. The Spirit bear is a black bear with a relating gene. This gene is has the same idea as a person with blue eyes or red hair. Both parents have to have the gene in order for the cub to have a chance at becoming a Kermode Bear. The Kermode Bear has light almost white colored nails, and its nose and paw pads are a lighter brown, therefore, it is not an albino animal.

The spirit bear inhabits only one place on earth. The central and north coast of British Colombia, Canada from about reverse inlet to Stewart. The spirit bear lives in area with high mountains and steep mountainsides that formed deep valleys and fjords(narrow). the soil on these rocky slopes is thin, held in place only by the tree that blanket them. Dense forests with plentiful water sources provide the perfect habitat for his diet, which is primarily made up of his favorite fish, salmon. According to the Land Somerhalder foundation, into 2009,a study showed that white Kermode bears can catch more salmon than other bears because of his color. he also likes to eat berries, nuts, green plants, and small rodents.
