Thanksgiving Message
As we enter the 2019-2020 holiday season, I would like to thank each and every member of the EAGLE ACADEMY Charter School community for all the things that you do so freely and with such energy, enthusiasm, and indomitable spirit.
These actions (big or small) make a positive difference in the lives of all of our students and is truly what makes EACS such a wonderful place to work and go to school.
To our EACS Families: Thank you for choosing Eagle Academy Charter School. I am so happy you are here and I am humbled by the trust you placed in us. We realize that we are not the only charter school in the ASD. Please know that we are 100% committed to being here to help all our students strive for excellence. Thank you for making your child's education a top priority and for encouraging them to be the best version of themselves. Each time you sit down with your child to practice their phonograms, work on solving Saxon math problems or even read a book, you reinforce the importance of school and learning.
To the EACS Faculty & Staff: Thank you for all the time and effort you put into making our school so amazing. Change can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming. Your support and patience during this transition is greatly appreciated. Thank you for showing courage, flexibility, and willingness to adjust your sails and to focus first on what is best for our students. Your consistent efforts to go above and beyond for all who enter through our doors is truly admirable.
To the Anchorage School District: Thank you for all of you "behind the scenes" support of Eagle Academy. Your embrace of our program bolsters our efforts to promote academic excellence for each and every one of our students.
I am grateful to be a part of such an outstanding community of learners and support personnel. There is no place that I'd rather be.
In closing, I would like to wish all of you and your families a wonder-filled Thanksgiving holiday!
Sincerely,
Deanne Carroll - EACS Principal

School Wide Policy Change Consideration
The APB (Academic Policy Board) is considering a policy change regarding uniform shorts. The change would revise language found on page 20 of the Policies & Procedures Manual regarding uniform shorts to the following:
- Shorts of the styles specified in the clothing listing may be worn year-round.
A change in policy requires it to be put out as public notice to allow input from the school community. Input can be given by attending our next meeting and sharing during public comment or can be given by emailing an APB member and asking it to be shared at the next meeting.

On November 24, 1859, British naturalist Charles Darwin's book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, a groundbreaking scientific work is published in England.
Darwin’s theory argued that organisms gradually evolve through a process he called “natural selection.” In natural selection, organisms with genetic variations that suit their environment tend to propagate more descendants than organisms of the same species that lack the variation, thus influencing the overall genetic makeup of the species.
FDR establishes Thanksgiving holiday
President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs a bill officially establishing the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day on November 26, 1941.
The tradition of celebrating the holiday on Thursday dates back to the early history of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies, when post-harvest holidays were celebrated on the weekday regularly set aside as “Lecture Day,” a midweek church meeting where topical sermons were presented. A famous Thanksgiving observance occurred in the autumn of 1621, when Plymouth governor William Bradford invited local Indians to join the Pilgrims in a three-day festival held in gratitude for the bounty of the season.
