Dayton Independent Schools
District Update ~ 11/20/2020
Thank You, Greendevils!
Thank you Greendevils!
I want to say how very proud I am of our students, staff and school community for their wonderful execution of our “Healthy at School” protocols. Our plan was one that worked to balance the needs and safety of students, staff and parents. We had very few positive Covid-19 cases among students and no positive cases among staff. According to our contact tracing protocols we did not find evidence of the spread of COVID-19 in our schools. We also did not have to quarantine any students or staff due to school exposure to COVID-19. Everyone did a great job of wearing masks, social distancing, taking temperatures, washing and sanitizing hands, not coming to school when sick, and communicating sickness to our school health professionals. I want to thank our wonderful food service crew for their continued efforts to feed and nourish our Greendevils and I also want thank our extraordinary custodial crew for doing a Five Star job of keeping the building disinfected and safe.
We were asked to create a plan to work during a pandemic and we did it! There is much to be proud of in our executing our mission during this pandemic.
We know that we are in a much different place in regards to community and state spread of COVID-19 and we understand Governor Beshear's need to put the mandates in place for the safety and protection of all. We will be supporting Governor Beshear with his efforts to keep Kentuckians safe. Together, we will Grow Forward!
Our mission stays the same…Inspire, Engage and Grow!

From Amanda Minser ~
During our virtual learning time, Lincoln wants to make sure that your student has all the support that they need, including for their mental health and social-emotional needs. There is a lot going on the world and it can cause big feelings for your kids. If your student is feeling anxious or nervous about the switch to virtual learning or COVID-19, grades, friendships, etc., please feel free to reach out to the Lincoln School Counselor, Amanda Minser by email at: amanda.minser@dayton.kyschools.us or by phone at 85-292-7492 X 4006. I am happy to speak with parents/guardians and schedule individual, virtual meetings to work with your students. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you all soon!
Thanks,
Amanda Minser-Lincoln School Counselor
DHS Support:
From Jessica Stallkamp ~
Thank you all for your continued efforts to make this otherwise difficult year as successful as you have thus far. We still have so much more work to do to continue to strive to excellence, but I know the whole Dayton community is up for the challenge. I know that the order from Governor Beshear for all public and private schools to return back to a virtual model comes with frustrations from everyone involved.
With that being said, I am trying my best to think “outside of the box” in order to address the academic and mental health needs of our student population. When we go back to virtual learning on Monday, November 23rd, students will be expected to login in from 8:45-11:40 am on Monday and Thursday and from 12:00-12:55 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. After those synchronous times, students are allowed to come in scheduled small group/one-on-one sessions to complete individual, targeted instruction or participate in counseling support services. I will be available at the following times for these support services:
Monday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Tuesday: 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Wednesday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Thursday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am – 3:00 pm (Virtual Support)
These in-person targeted instructional times and mental health/counseling support meetings WILL NEED to be scheduled as to follow the mandates set forth by the state of Kentucky. In order to set up these appointments, you can call/text (859) 801-8613, email jessica.stallkamp@dayton.kyschools.us, call the Dayton High School front office at (859) 292-7486, or send a Remind text to the number 810-10 with the classroom code @gffak33. I would love to see all students who need academic support for failing or low grades and/or students that need assistance with any type of mental health needs so that I can assist students in staying happy, healthy, and academically successful throughout these uncertain times.
Thank you all for your continued support and I look forward to working with your son/daughter in a scheduled, small group or individualized setting in order to support their needs.

Lincoln Elementary School
From Heather Dragan:
With the recent school closure mandates from Governor Beshear, we are moving to a remote learning model beginning Monday, November 23rd. As we move forward with our ALL virtual learning model, I want to take a moment to reframe the perception of virtual learning at Lincoln Elementary School. Back in the beginning of the school year, our students were able to work on their assignments at their own pace and convenience. Our students and guardians were acclimating themselves to the new learning devices and programs. After having in-person school time with students, we are now ready to adjust, improve and provide more LIVE instruction. Your child is required to be logged on during the times outlined below every day, and attendance will be taken. Your child will be following their same AM or PM daily schedule with their assigned teacher:
Current AM Students’ Daily Schedule:
8:45 am – Students begin logging onto their device to meet with teacher and class
9:00 -11:00 am – LIVE classroom learning time with teacher and class
Afternoon: Students complete their online work, assigned work and participate in specials classes
2:00 – 3:00 – Participation in small groups
*Wednesdays will remain an all virtual learning day with some small group meeting times with teachers.
Current PM Students’ Daily Schedule:
Morning: Students complete their online work, assigned work and participate in specials classes
11:45 am – Students begin logging onto their device to meet with their teacher and class
12:00 – 2:00 pm – LIVE classroom learning time with teacher and class
2:00 – 3:00 – Participation in small groups
*Wednesdays will remain an all virtual learning day with some small group meeting times with teachers.
We want to work together with you to build a strong partnership as we implement virtual learning for the next several weeks. If you need any assistance at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to our main office at 859-292-7492, and we will direct you to the correct person to support your needs.
Dayton Middle/High School
From Scott Meyers:
Middle and high schools (grades 6-12) will be closed to in-person classes through Jan. 4.
Classes will begin Virtually on Monday, November 23rd at 8:45 a.m. For now, Governor Beshear has recommended that in-person instruction be delayed until Monday, January 4th at the earliest. Please see the schedule shared below for our virtual school - synchronous learning. Students will be expected to sign on using Google Classroom and meet with their teacher/classmates at each assigned time/day. Google Classroom will be our school center point for all learning and instruction.
Attendance and participation in these classes is required and all grades will count toward student's 2nd quarter grades. We will follow all grading policies and treat submission of all work the same as we would if we were holding in building instruction. By meeting with classes via Google Meet twice a week and allowing students the opportunity to schedule in person/virtual meeting with staff for tutoring, we will not follow grading procedures adopted in the spring to conclude the 2019-20 school year.
