As we transition to hybrid for grades 4K-2nd (beginning December 7th) and updated live, synchronous learning for our students in grades 3rd-5th, we want to thank you for your patience and grace as we get everything up and running. Your support has allowed us to continue to deliver on our promise of working to provide the very best learning experience for all of our students. We know this year has been messy and at times frustrating and appreciate all that you have done and continue to do. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any specific questions regarding our hybrid model, or anything related to distance learning and school. We look forward to continuing our strong educational partnership and a short sprint to Winter Break.
Have a delightful December!

Social and emotional skills are the skills and strategies your child has for managing emotions, navigating relationships, working effectively with others, solving difficult problems, and making responsible decisions. At Token Springs, we strive to put your child’s social emotional concerns in the forefront of their learning. In an effort to work collaboratively with families, Token Springs has created a Social and Emotional Newsletter for Families which provides an abundance of resources in correlation with the social and emotional learning that your child(ren) is receiving here at Token Springs. The Social and EMotional Newsletter will be available for reference in the Terrapin News every month.
Additionally, each month in the Terrapin News, families will find a short social and emotional blurb that helps families reinforce the social and emotional skills that their child(ren) is/are learning through their SEL/Guidance lessons. With that said, as we approach the holiday season and continue to plan for hybrid for grades K-2, many families and students will be experiencing changes to routines and expectations in the upcoming weeks. Changes in routine and expectations can often cause big emotions and unexpected behaviors.
To best prepare your child(ren), take time to foreshadow any changes in routines or expectations that may be approaching in the upcoming weeks. When a child is experiencing a big emotion, it is important to co-regulate. This can be achieved through not focusing on the child’s behavior but instead staying in the moment with them, empathizing with facial gestures, calmly mirroring what they feel and accepting the expression of their feelings. For additional resources, please take a moment to review the co-regulation resources provided in the Social and Emotional Newsletter for Families.
Hello families,
As we prepare to welcome many students for hybrid learning, I wanted to address this question: When should I keep my student home from school? We are asking families to please review this checklist for EACH of your students DAILY before sending to school: SPASD Student COVID-19 Symptom Screening Checklist. If the answer is “yes” to ANY of the questions in Part 1, you should keep your student home from school. If the answer is “yes” to two or more symptoms in Part 2, you should keep your student home from school. As always, if your student has any vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, you should keep your student home from school. If you are unsure how to utilize the Health Screening Checklist or are unsure if your student should be kept home from school, please contact me in the health office at 608-478-5106. Should your student arrive at school with symptoms or develop symptoms during the school day, in accordance with the checklist, you will be contacted for student pick up.
Please be advised that if your student is out ill from school, you may be contacted by myself (or another nurse) to discuss symptoms and a return to school date. Each student situation is unique and we want to ensure we have all of the correct information when decision making regarding illness. We appreciate all of your efforts in keeping our Terrapin family safe!
Please reach out via phone (608-478-5106) or email (kpeter@sunprairieschools.org) with any questions, concerns, or resource needs!
