"Alice in Wonderland"
Thank You
Erin Petersen
With deepest and heartfelt gratitude, we thank Erin Petersen for being an absolute gift to our MEA community. Merely being in her creative presence made our days brighter and better. Erin's love for directing, acting, FUN, and joy with children on stage is inspiring and contagious. She nurtured a blossoming family of confident theatre artists across grade levels who are truly sad to see their show with her end. Her positive energy caused our children to want to be early for rehearsals, stay late, and wish for more. With sincerest appreciation, thank you to Erin for being a treasure, for seeing and loving our children, and for planting a lifelong love for live theatre securely in their souls.
Adira Rosen
The MEA Theatre Company would not exist today if not for MEA alumni Adira Rosen! Adira is the founder and original director of the MEA Theatre Company. We are so grateful that when she was an MEA 10th grader, Adira approached Principal Browne with her vision and business plan for this company. Although Adira is currently pursuing her BFA in Directing at Carnegie Mellon University, we are honored that she managed to come to San Diego to see "Alice in Wonderland." Thank you Adira, for making such a difference in the lives of our children and our school!

Speaker Holly Hidinger, "Sansei"
Tuesday, April 2 / 10:00-11:30 / MEA Auditorium
Plan to be in your seat by 9:55 so we can begin on time.
Come join us in welcoming Holly Hidinger, a third generation Japanese American "Sansei". She will be speaking about World War II and the experiences and injustices suffered by many Japanese Americans, including her parents, grandparents, and friends during that war.
Holly's father, Hideo Ochi, was the oldest of three brothers. He enlisted in the US Army in July, 1941, six months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Although he started his military training with a regular Army unit, after December 7, 1941 the Army wasn’t quite sure what to do with him. Eventually he worked in Army training sessions, showing what a Japanese soldier would look and sound like. Hideo was taught how to use captured Japanese weapons. He even had roles in Army training films, and was making a film in Hollywood when the war ended.

Learning about our feathered friends
Chickens take beauty baths in the dust!
Dust bathing is an important part of keeping chickens healthy and clean. A chicken scratches and digs out a bowl-shaped depression in dirt. Then she settles into this hollow, fluffs up her feathers, and scratches up loose dirt through fluffed feathers.
In the MEA chicken coop, you can see several dust bath hollows in the dirt along the fence next to the sidewalk. Our girls are bathing beauties!
**** EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ****
Please find the most up-to-date schedule on our website, This schedule is a work in-progress; we will continue to add to and fine-tune the schedule as needed.
If you are interested in offering an extracurricular class or workshop, please contact Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net. We are looking for folks wanting to share talents in science, technology, robotics, and the arts! All required district volunteer paperwork must be submitted in order to lead a class.
Making a Tree & Birds Nests
It's Spring and a new tree has sprouted up in the MakerSpace (helped out by Mr. Richard and several students). Also, thanks to many little helping hands, the tree is decorated with a variety of bird nests.
