GUIDANCE NEWS
Counselor Connection
National School Counseling Week - February 1-5
In January, 3rd graders learned the difference between good teasing and bad teasing. Ask your child about the seven ways a target can problem solve and the three ways a bystander can help in a teasing situation.
Fourth and 5th grade students learned the importance of creating a safe and respectful learning environment by participating in Act Now!, a Healthykidslearnmore.com e-learning program, about bullying. If you did not get a chance to view the program at the parent meeting in January and would like to get more information, please contact me at your convenience.
In February, friendship groups will be offered at every grade level, as well as other small groups by request. The school counselor can be reached at (608) 643-1954, if you would like to discuss any concerns about your child, or request that he/she be placed in a group.
A FREE Grandparent Support Group is being offered at Bridges Elementary for grandparents who are primary caregivers for their grandchildren. Please contact me for more information, if you are interested in learning more.

Ponder Parenting

* If parents are always intruding into the world of their children, the children will lose their independent spirit. If parents impose rule after rule on the behavior of their children, the children will lose their self-confidence. Keep your children safe, but do not be afraid to leave them alone.

E-mail Miss Sadie if you have thoughts or questions about how to accomplish this task.
CLAY TILE MURAL
Clay Tile Mural
Created in the Spring of 2015 by Grand Avenue’s class of 2016 and Sauk Prairie’s class of 2023.
In the spring of 2015 guest artist and author Kelly Parks Snider visited Grand Avenue and shared with students her book, Zilly. The storyline of Zilly encourages readers to embrace their originality and uniqueness, and to not be influenced by commercialism and media messages. After working with Kelly on projects based on commercialism and how it influences society, students were asked to write “I am” statements. The statements were developed based on students personal interests that are not influenced by media messages or advertisements. Students then created clay tiles that contained their statements and objects that were sculpted and attached or imprinted into the clay. After the tiles were fired, students painted the tiles using a color wash that achieved both individuality and uniformity in the mural.

If you call your child in with an illness, we would like you to please let us know the symptom/symptoms, i.e., a fever, sore throat, headache, cough, etc., that your child may have.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
For example, if your child suffers from migraine headaches, we will NOT be able to distribute medication to him/her without an AMA on file. The AMA form can be found on the District web site. In order for medications to be distributed, pills must be in a prescription bottle with proper labeling. Students may carry inhalers with them, however, an AMA form must be on file in the office.
If you have any questions regarding medication distribution, please contact Pam Frey, RN for the district at 643-5509.
