Hadfield School Goals
Each summer, Hadfield teachers and staff work to develop goals for the upcoming school year. For the 2017/18 school year, we are striving to increase the number of our students considered “proficient” and showing growth on grade level assessments, such as the Forward Exam, MAP test, and Running Records. Our teaching staff will be focused on providing small group instruction to meet each students’ needs. Additionally, we will be implementing a variety of activities and strategies to build an increasingly positive class community. Some of those activities include daily class meetings, class game times, and buddy classrooms.
Class Meeting
A class meeting is a 10-20 minute period of time during the day, when the class sits together in a circle and shares about a specific topic. The topic may be something like what is your favorite restaurant, or what is something you want to learn. The class meeting is an opportunity for the students to learn more about each other, practice attentive listening, and work on social skills.
Class Game Time
Class game time uses recess games to teach social emotional skills and community building. Hadfield students participate in 2 class game times a week led by their classroom teacher. The theme of the class game times connects to the monthly Playworks and class counselor lessons.
Buddy Classrooms
Each class at Hadfield has a partner, or buddy classroom within the school. The Buddy classes pair a younger grade with an older grade. Together, they do activities to support community, learning, and responsibility. Examples may be reading a book together, sharing their learning, or playing a game.
Parent Teacher Conferences / Listening Conferences
This school year Hadfield completed early parent / teacher conferences. The purpose was to connect with families at the beginning of the school year and listen and learn from parents what works best for their son or daughter. If you were unable to attend, please contact your son or daughter’s teacher to arrange a time to talk.
