...Safe, Responsible, & Kind...
Grant Wood Families:
Per ICCSD School Board guidance, we will be welcoming our Hybrid Group A and Group B students back to onsite classes during the week of December 14th. This week (Dec. 14th - Dec. 18th) we resume hybrid onsite schedules for A and B groups. Your weekly Sunday phone call from the Principal, Ms. Maria, will inform you which group your child is in for second trimester.
- Hybrid Group A (onsite classes: Mon., Tues., & Wed.)
- Hybrid Group B (onsite classes: Thurs. & Fri.)
- Online Learning Program (virtual/online classes Mon. through Fri.)
Hybrid students reporting to onsite classes this week should bring with them to the school their school materials that were picked up from the office in December. Students whose second trimester materials have not yet been picked up, will find their materials in thier classroom during their designated onsite hybrid day(s). To ensure being prepared for school this week, please make sure to charge your chromebooks overnight and bring them with you to school on your designated onsite days.
For hybrid group students, the days they are at home (i.e. their remote learning days) they should log into zoom to attend morning meeting. Please check your child's weekly schedule to determine if they are to attend any other zooms during their remote learning days. All students should check Seesaw for assignments as well as work off of Dreambox and Lexia daily.
The District's communication on Friday (12/11) also stated that,
"We will continue to monitor the Johnson County [covid-19] positivity rates. Should the rates begin to rapidly rise, we want to prepare families that there may be a need to move to off-site learning mid-week. Of course, we will share any updates and changes as soon as possible."
There will be no classes Monday, Dec. 21st through January 1st, due to winter break. In the year 2021, classes will resume on Monday, January 4th. Please call, 319-688-1180, the Grant Wood office (7:30am-3:30pm) prior to winter break with any questions.

No more "snow days" ...District change
Below are some changes to the District's approach to inclement weather days this year. Moving forward, the District will provide online instruction on days when the weather prevents us from having in-person classes. Rather than having our traditional “snow days”, these days will now be considered “virtual learning days”.
Schedules for students in our various models will be as follows on these virtual learning days:
- K-12 Online Learning Program - All classes will continue to meet as scheduled based on the Online Learning Program Schedule.
- Elementary Hybrid (Group A & Group B)
- On-site students - On-site students will follow the Online Learning Program/100% Offsite Schedule. The times and Zoom links will be sent to parents by the classroom teacher prior to 8:00 am. (This applies to A students on A days and to B students on B days.)
- Off-site students - Off-site students will log into the morning meeting as scheduled, and complete any asynchronous activities as planned. Off-site students who are receiving synchronous off-site SDI, interventions, or ELL supports will receive those as planned. (This applies to A students on B days and to B students on A days.)
In addition to virtual learning, on days that inclement weather causes hybrid group students to remain at home, (as explained above) the District will provide Grab & Go Meals at the District’s designated sites on these virtual learning days.

Ms. Maria (Principal) awards PBIS points via ClassDojo
Ms. Martin (Principal) looks to award ClassDojo (i.e. PBIS) points to students which they can then redeem. Points can be earned for:
- school engagement by participating in class zooms,
- posting work on Seesaw,
- completing lessons on Dreambox, and
- completing lessons on Lexia....as well as,
- for reports from parents about students making safe choices and exhibiting kindness.
Ms. Martin also welcomes feedback, suggestions, and discussion ideas regarding what students would like to have as options for their ClassDojo points.
Please email me at: martin.maria@iowacityschools.org
I shall share your ideas with our Student Leadership Team and teaching staff to determine which ideas we can pursue.
