Fall Festival
"Native American Day"
MEA guest presentor, Cathleen Chilcote Wallace of the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, spoke of her history and shared stories with our elementary students. She had many Native American artifacts to show and MEA parents volunteered to help run her different activities.
In the picture below Cathleen is explaining how deerskins were used, and her son Brandon plays a native flute to accompany her talk.

Students took turns dropping the stick dice and counting the score. Different combinations score different points.

School will be closed for Thanksgiving break from November 19-23. School will re-open on Monday, November 26.
SSC/SGT Meeting

All parents are invited to attend the School Site Committee (SSC) meeting. The SSC is a shared decision-making body composed of parents, staff, and students. Winter Concert

Mr. Johnson’s students will showcase some of the musical pieces they have learned this year. Everyone is invited to come enjoy our Beginning Orchestra, Beginning Band, Choir, Advanced Orchestra, and Advanced Band as they perform for your listening pleasure!
Author Visit & Holiday Hoopla

Children's book author, Henry Herz, will be visiting the Mt. Everest Academy community! Mr. Herz writes fantasy and science fiction for children, but everyone is welcome to attend. He will have his books available for purchase until 2:00pm! Plus, it's a thrill to have a book signed by the author!
Mrs. Vivian will be reading his book "How the Squid Got Two Long Arms" during Library Time the week of November 26. For questions, please contact Vivian Sink at vsink@sandi.net

See's Candies Fundraiser

Hello Mt Everest Families!!!
This is the final week of our See’s Candy Fundraiser! Please continue to collect See’s orders and donations to help support all of the wonderful activities, events and clubs at our school. The money raised from this fundraiser goes to make your family’s experience here at MEA only more rich and wonderful! Please support us in continuing to have our “do school differently” school a place you want to be! All orders MUST be in by Thursday, November 15th as orders need to be placed and will be delivered in early December. Summer Germany Trip
Unfortunately, the proposed summer trip to Germany has been cancelled as there ended up not being enough participants. Many thanks to Mr. Spiegelberg for all the planning that went in to setting up this trip - he feels this opportunity is so worthwhile that he intends to offer it to everyone again next year!
Toiletries Donation Drive
November 6 - November 14
Our toiletries donation drive for Monarch School continues through Wednesday, November 14. Collection boxes are in room 9 and in the front office. We are mostly looking for small travel toiletries containers that we can make into packages to distribute to the homeless. Thank you for having a big heart for people in need! Hygiene kit flyer
Ms. Mullen's Spanish students showed posters at the Fall Festival to build awareness about the donation drive while using their Spanish!
High School reps needed for our School Site Council

Parent ID Card
Parents, an easy way to get your Parent Educator ID card is to email a headshot of yourself to Linda Ele at lele@sandi.net. Linda will make your ID card here on campus (free, no charge!) and the card and a lanyard will be ready for pickup from the office the next day.
Parents that are on campus for more than student drop off and pick up must wear a Parent Educator ID card and MEA lanyard at all times when on campus, as per the Campus Code of Conduct policy. All other visitors should have a visitor sticker from the front office visible.

Come learn beginning crochet! Our first project will be using chains and pinwheels to make holiday decorations.

Classics4Kids: "Music Takes Flight"
MEA student Lily Stock will be performing violin with Classics4Kids at the Balboa Theatre on November 15th and 16th. There are shows at 10am and 11:45am both days. The performance is called Music Takes Flight with The Classics Philharmonic, Conductor Dana Zimbrick, a San Diego museum partner, and the SDSU Music School. The program will feature classical music based on flying insects, planes, pilots, rockets, spaceships, superheroes, literary/film characters.
