Reading
In reading this month, we started a new unit where we will be learning about different types of traditional literature. We discussed elements of a fable and folktale. Over the course of the unit, the students will be comparing the elements of different types of traditional literature. In order to do this, they are filling out a matrix for all of the stories we will be reading. In pairs the students have worked on filling out plot lines and determining the theme. Next week we are looking forward to rewriting a tall tale from a different point of view.
Writing
Our fourth graders have finished up their final draft of the Time For Kids articles by typing them on the Chromebooks. We will definitely have these on display for you in May at academic night.
Math
We concluded our challenging unit on equations, word problems, and prime and composite numbers. The students are all starting to memorize the metric conversion chart that came home on the parent note. Please keep that safe, as it is a great tool to use for their homework. This unit is a mix of metric and customary measurements and conversions.
Science/Social Studies
We are taking a break from our fun and engaging magnetic and electricity science unit to focus on the Southeast region in the United States. If they haven't already, your child will be bringing home their states/capitals flashcards very soon!! Please encourage them to study a few states/capitals a day as well as the shape/location of the state.
