Conferences & OLP Material pick up (Wed); School Photo (Fri)
Safe, Responsible, & Kind...
Dear Grant Wood Families:
This week will be a busy week for all. Before delving into details relating to Parent-Teacher conferences, School Photo Day, and Materials Pick up Day for Online Learning Program students, I'd like to highlight some information relating to Breakfast Arrival time and the Car Line.
- Breakfast line (at door 19) opens at 7:40am Monday through Friday. Please note that prior to 7:40am we do not have any before school supervision for our students. Your help in having students arrive to school starting at 7:40am is greatly appreciated.
- Our car line now includes a school bus and we thank you for the patience and the increased caution with which you navigate the school parking lot. We expect the school bus to continue using the car line through the end of the winter season. During this time, (approximately the next two weeks) parents can use the neighboring parking lot to drop off and pick up students. Once the bus resumes use of the neighboring lot, all parents will be directed to the main parking lot again. We expect this to be at the end of the winter season.
Wednesday, March 3rd is a school day - an early dismissal school day. School will dismiss at 1:55pm. After school, March 3rd will be the first day of our March Conferences. Conferences will be virtual. Sign up links can be found at this document - just clcik on your child's teacher's name within the list.
- Conferences on Wednesday, March 3rd will start at 2:10pm and conclude at 7:10pm
- Please call the office with any questions, 319-688-1180
- A second day of conferences will be held on March 10th (7:40am - 7:10pm) - March 10th is a no school day for all students.
Friday, March 5th will also be a regular school day and it will be School Portrait Day. School Photos will be taken by Halverson Photography during the school day for onsite students scheduled during their class time.
- Online Learning Program students are also invited to take their school photos on March 5th after school from 3-4pm.
- Online Learning Program students are to use the Community entrance for school photos after school Friday.
*The picture date is subject to change based on the Covid-19 positivity rates to be below the 14 day average of 10% in Johnson County.
**If you wish to place an order for the school portraits you can place an order online using the link listed below. The link will be active until 10am the day after the picture date.

February... Black History Month
Though tomorrow we start March...today, February 28th is still National Black History Month; let us all strive to not limit ourselves nor our students' learning to an isolated heritage month.

Grant Wood PTO
My name is Brooke Engler. I’m the president of our PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization). I have 3 kiddos at Grant Wood. Henry is in 6th grade, Charles is in 4th, and Clara is in Kindergarten. During "normal" years your kids would see me at school and get to know me as Miss Brooke.
I am so grateful to be a part of our PTO the past 5 years. I’m reaching out to see if anyone would like to join. We organize Dine Out fundraisers, Family Movie Night, assist with picture day, hearing tests, school carnival(s), and anything else the school might need help with. While we may not be able to be at the school in person this year as in past years, these can still be items for discussion and planning for the future. The PTO is also open to discussing other items not centered around fundraising.
For more information you can reach me by email: tristan2915@yahoo.com

Extended Learning Program (ELP) for 2021-2022
The yearly screening of students for participation in the Extended Learning Program
(ELP), the elementary program for gifted and very high ability students, is underway for
the 2021-2022 school year. This program is appropriate for students who are at the
highest academic levels in their grade. Students can enter this screening pool by Iowa
Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) scores, teacher nomination or parent
nomination. More information is available on the district website
Go to: Departments --> Curriculum --> Curriculum Areas --> Extended Learning Program (ELP)
--> Elementary Services.
Only grades 3 through 5 are included in this screening process. Kindergarten and first grade students are being screened for ELP services through in-class lessons and collaboration with the classroom teacher throughout the school year. All 2nd graders will be screened in the Spring.
Parents will receive notification about second grade screening when it is scheduled at
their child’s school. No parent or teacher nominations are necessary for grades K-2. If you would like to nominate your third, fourth or fifth grade child to be tested for ELP
services, please complete a parent information form.
Forms will be available online between February 21 and March 26, 2021 at https://forms.gle/y8nRipaSbDW6fR6h8.
Paper forms will be available in the school office during the same time. No forms will be
accepted after March 26, 2021 at 4:00 PM.
