PRAIRIE POST
November 22, 2019
Message from the Principal
Hello Prairie Families,
This week our students learned another tool to help them regulate their emotions that they can use independently within the zen zone. Each of our classrooms has a zen zone where students are able to choose to go when they need to use a strategy to help them get back to the green zone (feeling calm and focused). This week we learned about the finger maze! In previous weeks we learned about belly breathing, wall pushing, and coloring. These strategies are consistent and available for students to access in any environment throughout our school. When they get to the zen zone there is a 5-minute timer that the student is able to start to monitor the time that they have to regulate his/her emotions. Below are specific directions for each strategy so that you can use them at home if you're interested!
Shout out to our Prairie students and staff for all of the hard work they're doing to make recess a safe, healthy and joyful part of our day! This week we had visitors from a different school outside of our district come to Prairie to observe Playworks in action. What a celebration!
Have a great weekend!

Hello! This is my 2nd year as a Special Education Teacher here at Prairie Elementary. This school year I am working with first and fourth-grade students. I am originally from Illinois and came to Wisconsin to attend Whitewater University to earn my undergraduate degree in Cross-Categorical Special Education and decided to stay and start my teaching career here in Waukesha. I love spending time with my family, traveling, and anything outdoors. Thank you for a great start of the school year!

Artist of the Month
It's back! The Artists of the Month Award is back at Prairie again this year. One student from K-2nd grades and one student from 3rd-5th grades is selected each month for this honor. Students are selected not only for their artistic ability, creativity and craftsmanship, but also for their ability to model great behavior and kindness for others in the art room.
November's Artists of the Month are First Grader, Sophia Born and 3rd grader, Calek Smith. Congratulations artists!
Art to Remember
A huge thank you to all parents who supported the Art to Remember program at Prairie this year. This year has been our best year yet! It was the first year we were able to offer online ordering.
I am looking for any feedback you might have, as to the ease (or difficulty) of using/ordering through the website and whether you feel this is a program that is worth continuing at Prairie. (I am rather biased when it comes to children's artwork!) Please feel free to email me with any feedback you might have. Thank you.
