Platteville Community Holiday Project
Platteville Public Schools is represented on the Platteville Holiday Project Committee and will again cooperate with several local agencies and service clubs to help provide confidential assistance to families who may be experiencing a difficult financial situation this year. These groups make available toys, Chamber of Commerce gift certificates for clothing, food baskets and a variety of other items for distribution to local families.
Each year the number of organizations and individuals participating in the Platteville Holiday Project seems to grow. This is exciting news, but it means we need extra time to coordinate the effort and get clothing certificates, food baskets, toys, etc. distributed to families before vacation begins.
For giving to be meaningful or useful, there must be a receiver. If your family could use a little extra help this year, please complete the Holiday Project Referral Form. These forms are available in the school office and will also be emailed out. Return it to Vicki Feldman, Nancy Olson, Laura Melby, or your child’s teacher or the school secretary by November 5th, 2015.
Next year you may be in a position to help someone else.
The Platteville Journal and the local radio station will have information about the time and place for distribution of new and used toys. Please contact Nancy Olson (342-4020, ext. 1220) Vicki Feldman (342-4010, ext. 1304), or Laura Melby (342~4010, ext. 1302) if you have any questions.

A note from Mr. Olenchek, Middle School Athletic Director
Hello parents,
If your 7th or 8th grade student is planning on participating in Middle School basketball for the 2015-2016 school year, a physical card is required (signed and completed by a
doctor). However, if your student already has a physical on file with the school office
from the 2014-15 school year, another physical will not be required (physicals are valid
for 1 year from the date of the exam). Instead, we will need an Alternate Year Card (signed by the parent authorizing participation in sports). Additionally, a $25 activity fee is required for participation, along with a signed and completed concussion form, both of which can be turned in at the middle school office. For more information about basketball this year, please encourage your child to attend the informational meeting, which will be taking place in Mr. Brunson’s classroom on Tuesday, October 20th after school. The first practice will then take place on Monday, October 26th.
Please contact the office with questions. The required forms are available in the school office if needed.
Platteville Fire Dept. Fire Prevention Poster Contest 2015
The contest will be running October 5, 2015 through October 18, 2015. All posters will be picked up from the school office on October 19, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. The year the Platteville Fire Dept. will again provide the poster paper for the contest. On the back of the poster paper is listed all the contest required information and requirements that need to be filled out for the contest. These posters can be picked up in the school office.
This year's theme is: "Hear the Beep While You Sleep"
Any questions regarding the contest, please contact Dave Niehaus at the Platteville Fire Dept. at (608) 348-1828 or (608) 732-0137.
About Deaf Awareness Week
National Deaf Awareness week was celebrated September 20-26, 2015. Deaf Awareness week is celebrated to help bring attention to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Throughout the week emails were sent out with videos of common signs that students and staff might use with a Deaf or hard of hearing student in our district. A 7th grader was the star in our videos throughout the week; sharing his sign language skills with the Platteville School District staff. The staff had the opportunity to incorporate the videos into their classroom as time allowed.
