What is a Retail Store Manager?
A retail store manager is the person who is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operations of their store. All employees working in the store will report to you as a manager, but as a store manager you would report to someone higher than you such as your area or general manager. Being a manager is also part of being in a busy, dynamic environment that changes daily. Your list of duties will vary from high levels of customer service to reviewing security issues. Managing the whole operation, you will ensure that your assigned store reaches its sales and profitability but also exceeds.
Your Roles will Include:
- Recruiting, training staff to achieve the highest level of a good team
- Over seeing stock control and receiving orders
- To keep store standards high
- Organising rotas and holidays
- Pay roll
- Dealing with customer service issues such as queries and complaints
Salary:
- A managers salary could be anything from £19k to £40k a year depending on the size of your store, your experience, and where you live.
Hours:
- You will be working working an average of 37-40 hours a week. However this is rarely a Monday to Friday due to you being expected to work at some weekends as it is the busiest time for shops.
Qualifications:

There are no specific entry qualifications required to be a store manager, although a good general education is usually needed. If you have never been in management before, some retail chains run management training schemes and large retailers offer a graduate apprenticeship scheme. A degree in retail, business or marketing-related subjects will give you an advantage. If your are interested in taking a course before becoming a Store Manager look into:
