PRAIRIE POST
January 15, 2021
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 18 AND MONDAY, JANUARY 25
Message from the Principal
Hello Prairie Friends and Families,
This week our team met with our district librarian to learn about updates that were made to the digital citizenship curriculum. We will have "Digital Citizenship Week" the weeks of January 18th and January 25th at Prairie. The digital citizenship curriculum prepares students to take ownership of their digital lives. We know this is especially important for our learners this year! Our teachers will share family resources as they teach the digital citizenship curriculum for you to use at home!
We will MAP test the week of January 18th. MAP stands for Measure of Academic Progress, and it is a standardized assessment that students take on their iPads. It takes about 15-20 minutes for our youngest learners and about 30-40 minutes for our oldest learners. The assessment is dynamic. As students select correct responses, the questions get more complex. As students select incorrect responses, the questions get less complex. Our K-1 learners take the Math MAP assessment, and our 2-5 learners take the Math and Reading MAP assessment. Our teachers are trained in a variety of assessment methods that allow them to collect ongoing data and information on our learners to inform their planning. MAP is just one of those assessment methods that gives us a different data point than those that we use on a daily/weekly basis. We remind learners that it's their opportunity to show us what they know so that we can better plan to meet their needs. MAP scores are always made available in Infinite Campus in the assessment section.
Now that we're almost halfway through the school year I want to revisit our before school procedures. Students are able to arrive between 8:30am and 8:40am. There is no longer any before school recess time. No students should be playing on the playground or blacktop area before school. Students should go directly to their assigned entrance upon arrival to have their temperature checked. Teachers meet the first group of students at the entrance at 8:30am. After that students enter the building as they arrive and are greeted by their teachers in the hallways and classrooms.
Remember, we do not have school on Monday, January 18th or Monday, January 25th. Our teachers will be busy planning and learning so that we can continue to provide the best learning experience possible for our Prairie Pumas.
Have a great, long weekend!
We are Team Prairie!
We are stronger together!

School Supplies
As we enter the second half of the school year, we are finding the need to replenish some classroom supplies for the student bins. We are asking each student to bring in another box of crayons, box of markers, and 2 glue sticks. Please label and return to school with your child so they can be added to their plastic bin of supplies. If you are willing to donate any extra supplies, we will be happy to accept those. Thank you so much for your support.
