Titans' Times
Week of Oct. 3-7, 2022
NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
As a school community, we recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Thursday, September 29th. Our prayers for the last 10 days have included information about the Calls to Action from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
In 2008, a group called the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was made. Their job was to listen to stories about residential schools and write down important things we can do as Canadians, to learn from our mistakes. These are the TRC's 94 Calls to Action. The 6 Calls to Action shown below are some of the actions that we can help students learn.
As part of our morning prayers in the classrooms, the students wrote words of remembrance completed around the theme of "Remembering the Children". In the afternoon we gathered as a school community and placed the ribbons on the fence and concluded in prayer to “remember the children”.
The ribbons on the school fence will become a visible outreach to the community to remember children who were in Residential Schools, those who never came home and those who are still affected by discrimination and intergenerational trauma.
Always remembering the children,
Mrs. Lisa Kleparchuk, Principal
Mrs. Sheri Crowston, Vice Principal

In Canada, mental illness impacts 1.2 million of our children and youth. By the time they reach age 25, that number increases to around 1 in 5 Canadians. Spreading awareness, education, and support is crucial in supporting children, youth, and families affected by mental illness. (Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2021)
We can create impactful change by having open conversations, reducing stigma, and normalizing accessing help for mental health. Here are some resources on how to support a loved one with their mental health:
