THEME THURSDAY
We have had so much fun and learning celebrating Theme Thursday. For International Dot Day we talked about how to make a difference and leave a mark in this world. For International Peace Day we learned about world leaders that have worked hard to bring peace and kindness for all human kind. For World Habitat Day we learned we discussed ways in which we can take care of our habitat and our planet. Click here for upcoming Theme Thursday themes. It will also be posted on our website on the daily/weekly calendar.
Ms. Reed's Corner
As parents, we love our children. We want them to be successful and never struggle. We are their parents. That's what we're supposed to do, right? The answer is...No. Not really.
Our job as parents is to provide our children with the skills to be logical and solve problems. As parents, if we come to their rescue every time something doesn't go their way, we in essence are creating more challenges for our kids. Our children will never develop the internal thought process to work through problems. Below is a guide to practice with your child/children the next time a problem arises. Practice with even the smallest challenges that come along. That way when the big problems come along, you're both familiar with the process. BONUS!!! Imagine how proud you'll be when you see your child solve problems on their own!!
COMMUNICATION
In efforts to keep you well informed, I invite you to join our communication outlets. You can text the code @jwlongelem to the number 81010 to subscribe to our campus Remind thread. This is how I as the principal communicate directly with parents to give updates, reminders, and special notices. (These messages can be translated to your language of choice through the Remind app. Click here to access the app.)
Speaking of sharing, you can also follow our school on Twitter @JWLTigers or follow the district @TerrelIISD look for our tag #TigerPride to see the amazing things happening at our school or across Terrell ISD.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
New ID Badge
Beginning today, students are required to have their Student ID's with them at campus and use them for scanning on and off the buses. Each campus is welcome to have their own guidelines and incentives for student ID's. We hope you enjoy the video tutorial below.
See video for a detailed explanation.
Parent Survey
Student Recognition- Tiger P.R.I.D.E
to encourage and recognize positive behaviors and academic achievement in students at JW Long Elementary School. We will have two school-wide assemblies to recognize A Honor Roll, A-B Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance students. In addition to that, we will have Tiger P.R.I.D.E rewards that will be passed out to students that display:
Positive Attitude- will be drawn on Monday
Respect for Others- will be drawn on Tuesday
Integrity- will be drawn on Wednesday
Determination- will be drawn on Thursday
Enthusiasm- will be drawn on Friday
Teachers can give tickets away any day of the week for any exemplar behavior displayed by their students. These tickets will be colored coded by grade level and students will place them in the corresponding P.R.I.D.E buckets that will be located in the cafeteria. Each day during announcements 1 ticket will be pulled for each grade level from the corresponding PRIDE bucket. In other words, each day 6 students will be recognized school-wide.
The students’ names that are pulled will come to the counselor or available administrator’s office to choose a “prize” from the choice board.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Parent-Teacher Communication
Carline Etiquette
Please do not save parking spot in the carline during dismissal. Many parents arrive early to get in line and it is unfair and upsetting when someones disregards courtesy rules. Thank you for your cooperation.
Lunch Visits
Please inform your teacher through Remind of any changes in your child's lunch arrangements.
Thank you for your support and understanding!
PTO Membership & Support
We welcome you to join our Parent Teacher Organization, or PTO. We are needing council members for our PTO council. All council seats are up for election. If you are interested, please complete the form below. We had pour first PTO meeting on 9/5/19. We had two families participating, but it was not enough to hold elections and discuss our beginning of the year items.
We need your participation!
