Culinary Cross-Category Capers
Have you heard about Mt. Everest Academy's new reality show? Two Thursdays each month, students present a dramatic cooking event. Last month the cooking crew made delicious apple bites while Mr. Nielsen's multimedia class filmed the event. His students will now edit the video clips to produce an entertaining presentation we all can enjoy!
Types of rocks on campus
As part of their Pebbles, Sand, and Silt unit, the second grade class went on a scavenger hunt for rocks in use on our school grounds. They found cement walkways, asphalt black top areas, clay pots, and even gravel used as a landscaping tool. They then recorded their data on a graph. The final analysis: Mt. Everest Rocks!

MEA Suggestion Box
Hello MEA Families! As per a student’s suggestion, :) a suggestion box has been placed in the library. We all know Principal Browne is always open to us sharing ideas with her, but a student suggested we have a formal box for the times we aren’t able to connect with her while we are on campus. This box is for ideas regarding anything to do with our school,-something you may want to see happen or an idea for improvement- and also to let us know if something is working really well! We ask that you treat this box with care and are respectful of the sincere desire of our student body to hear your wishes and interests!
Vision Boards / Magazine Request
Magazines Wanted!
MEA Families! Have old magazines laying around? Please feel free to bring them to the Maker Space! We’ll give them new life! Thank you!
Vision Boards
Interested in clarifying your goals for the new year? Join us in the Maker Space to make a vision board. Vision boards are to help us clarify intentions. For example I may say- I want to be happier in 2018. Well, this doesn’t say much, does it? Yet, if I sit down and think about what that means to me (more time to hike, more going to shows, more playing soccer) and I create a board with these photos/words on it, -I can remember what I want and help myself to reach whatever it is I want to make happen. The board reminds us of what we want, and is a visual to help us keep moving toward those goals. With the distractions of life, it is easy to forget what we really want !!!
This workshop is open to everyone: parents, students and staff. If you're interested, please email Ms. Barb at bmulvany@sandi.net. The workshop can be set up for a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. Please clarify your availability when you email. Thank you and happy 2018!
Your Ideas for Makerspace Projects & Challenges?
As YOUR Maker Space we’re always trying to provide new and interesting projects and engineering challenges just for you. We’d love for you to brainstorm with your family to come up with ideas for us you may want us to try. Send your list to bmulvany@sandi.net. Who knows, you may come to visit us and see your project waiting to be created!! Thank you for any input you can give us!
Here's a sample of previous challenges:
- The Ultimate Flyer
- Tower of Power
- Bridge of Sticks
MEA Ducks!
SEEKING FOREVER HOMES FOR 3 DUCKLINGS
(3 have been adopted!)
If you are interested in adopting a duckling or two, please contact Vivian Sink, vsink@sandi.net by Thursday, January 11 so we can order the eggs.
As part of our whole school science program, we would like to hatch 6 Pekin duck eggs in the library during the months of January and February. However, we will need some families committed to adopting the ducklings and keeping them after they are hatched. They will need to stay here with us for one week after hatching, so they will be ready for families probably mid to late February.
Elementary Students on Campus
To parents of elementary students,
Students in grades K-5 are supervised when they are in study groups and PALS. Any other time elementary students are on campus, they need to be supervised by a parent or family member. They should not be left on their own to go from one extracurricular activity to another. Please plan for your child's supervision, so they can enjoy all the wonderful activities and friendships that are available here on campus.
********** extracurricular activities ***********
Please find the most up-to-date schedule here. This schedule is a work in-progress; we will continue to add to and fine-tune the schedule as needed.
If you are interested in offering an extracurricular class or workshop, please contact Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net. All required district volunteer paperwork must be submitted in order to lead a class.
Pokemon Schedule Change
1st & 3rd Wednesdays / 1:30-2:30
The Pokemon/Games Club is changing its meeting day and time to the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 1:30 to 2:30pm in the cafeteria. Don't know how to play Pokemon? No problem.
