Tiger Tech Bits & Bytes News
October 2015 Issue
Welcome to the October issue . . .
In early October, I was able to attend the MoreNet Conference which was held in St. Louis at Union Station! It was quite enjoyable again and I look forward to sharing some of what I learned with you in this newsletter and also in some sessions on our first PD day, November 30th!
This October issue tends to have a general "research" theme. I hope you enjoy what I have gathered and shared with you!
Sincerely,
Carmen Nolting

For General Reading and Researching
Once you navigate to Google Books, you can do a search for your topic or book title. After that, use the search tools to narrow your searches down. The search tools allow you to determine what type of books you want (Preview Available, Google eBooks, or FREE Google eBooks), any document (any document, just books, or just magazines), and any time (books published any time, 21st century, 20th century, 19th century, or custom date range). You can sort your results by relevance or by date as well. After you have selected a book, you can search within that book also to be sure it contains the type of information you are looking for.
Within your library that Google creates for you, you can create bookshelves. For example, if you are having your students do research papers or reports, you can create a bookshelf with the books you want them to use. Once you have created that bookshelf, you can then share the link with your students, assuming you have made that particular bookshelf public.
Also, Google Books can be downloaded in .pdf format using a Google Books Downloader.

Referencing Made Easy!
With the RefMe app on a device, you can scan book or journal barcodes on the go, which will then be synced with your free online account! The app is available for Apple and Android!
RefMe allows you to reference books, articles, webpages, videos, newspapers, reports, legislation, artwork, and so much more!
RefMe even has a Chrome Extension for even easier referencing of websites! Just go to the website you are wanting to reference, click the RefMeWebClipper button (after you've added it from the Chrome Web Store) and RefMe will ask you to sign in if you haven't already. Then it will create the citation and offer you a highlighter for highlighting quotes or text. Once you are done, RefMe will add it to the project you select/have started!
Give it a try today!
Securely receive files from anyone!
With dropitto.me, you go create a FREE account for yourself (for this part, I used my school username and password). Then, you decide where you want the files that are dropped to you to land, in your Google Drive, your Dropbox, or your OneDrive! Dropitto.me created a dropittome folder for me in my Google Drive! Next, you create a link (mine is dropitto.me/mrsnolting) and an upload password (mine is mrsnolting). This is the link and password you will share to those who are wanting to share files with you.
Now sit and wait for a student who needs to get a file or photo to you! When the need arises, simply ask them if they can get to the internet on their device. When they hopefully reply yes, give them your link AND the upload password! On their device, they will go to the internet and type in your link. They will get a dropitto.me window asking them for the upload password, the one you gave them. After they enter that, their device will then ask them to select the file. After some uploading time, Bam! The file is dropped to you! Now, you go to your Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive and find the dropittome folder and find the file! It's so easy and convenient!
Give it a try! Drop a selfie to me! Use my link: dropitto.me/mrsnolting and the upload password, mrsnolting! I'll let you know when I get it! =) Have fun!
Researching Within A Google Document
The research tool is a GREAT tool to use with your students when having them write reports and research papers. Nicole and I would be happy to visit with you, and even your class(es) about using this awesome tool should you prefer that! Just contact us!
