Intent to Return Form for Parents of Juniors
Parents of Juniors,
A lot of families still have not completed our Intent to Return Form to let us know whether or not your child plans to return to Middle College for their senior year. In two weeks we will begin reviewing new applicants for admission. If you have not filled out the form, you may lose your spot here for next year and your seat may be offered to a new student. If you have not already done so, please fill out this form immediately. Thank you.

Mock ACT - Feb. 12
- Mock ACT = Saturday, February 12, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in Building 3 - Room 125. Students can sign up until Wednesday, February 9 by 5:00 p.m.
ACT Prep - Feb. 14, 21
- ACT Tutoring (English/Reading) = Monday, February 14, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in Building 3 - Room 203.
- ACT Tutoring (Science/Math) = Monday, February 21, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in Building 3 - Room 203.
Juniors Take the ACT at Rogers-Herr M.S. - March 15
The 2022 ACT will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Rogers-Herr Middle School, 911 W Cornwallis Rd, Durham, NC 27707. Students will be provided bus transportation, if needed. DPS will provide a bagged breakfast and lunch.
Note: All JUNIORS are REQUIRED to take the exam. The exam will start by 9:00 am and will last until approximately 1:30 pm, standard administration. More details are forthcoming, outlining the arrival time and what you can expect for the test day. Students will be required to participate in a pre-test session prior to the test date.
For now, you must complete the following:
1. If you will miss a college synchronous course on the day of the test, you will need to complete the DTCC Absence Form: An excused absence is defined as a planned absence. Durham Tech students are allowed one (1) excused absence per class per term for a planned event or observance. Students who wish to use an excused absence must submit an Excused Absence Notification form and any supporting documentation at least fourteen (14) calendar days in advance of the scheduled absence date.
There are no exceptions to this deadline. Start this process NOW!
2. Please read each email from Mrs. Tugman regarding the ACT carefully and promptly. By staying apprised of the process, it will make your testing experience on the 15th much easier and less stressful.

Celebrate Valentine's Day - Feb. 14
Our National Honor Society is celebrating by giving each student and staff member a bag of valentine candy. Also, students will be able to participate in a free raffle to win a free ticket to this year’s prom “Everything Gold” - a value of $65. Come by the outdoor area of the College Café - Building 10 to get your gift and a chance to attend the prom “Everything Gold” for free!

DTCC Summer School
Seniors,
Do you plan to take DTCC summer school classes? If so, you must submit this Google Form no later than February 16th so we can begin our budgeting process. If you do not fill out his form by the deadline, you will be required to pay for all summer expenses (i.e. tuition plus course fees). If you do submit the form on time, we will cover the tuition for approved summer classes and you will only have to purchase your books/access codes. Summer classes will be selected during advising which will begin sometime in March.
Juniors,
You are automatically eligible for free summer tuition and therefore don’t have to submit the above form. If we have your materials in stock already, you may check them out from us. If we do not have them in stock already, you will be responsible for purchasing them. Summer and fall classes will be selected during advising which will begin sometime in March.
National Honor Society Application Deadline - Feb. 21
National Honor Society Candidate Packets have been sent to all potential candidates’ DTCC email. The deadline for submitting the application is fast-approaching! In order to receive the NHS Candidate packet, your cumulative GPA must be 3.5 unweighted after the fall semester. - Summer Accelerator for rising 10th - 12th Graders
- Talented rising 10th to 12th grade students choose courses of interest that combine residential, hands-on learning on campus with online education. These courses are conducted over three weeks. The first two weeks of each course take place virtually, at the student's own pace. The third week of each course takes place on campus (in Durham or Morganton, NC) or online.

- This year's Doodle for Google theme is "I care for myself by..." and invites students to open up their creative hearts and show us all the ways they nurture their bodies, minds, and spirits. The contest opens Jan. 11th and goes through March 4th. 54 students will be named winners from their state.
- Four finalists will win a $5,000 scholarship and one winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship, $50,000 Google technology package, and their artwork will be placed on the Google homepage for a day.

- Project Seed Applications Due March 1st
- The NC American Chemical Society (ACS) Project SEED (Science Educational Experience for the Disadvantaged) is a cost-free, year-round science enrichment program for academically talented, economically disadvantaged students. The goal of the program is to motivate students who have an interest in science to pursue terminal degrees. NC ACS Project SEED offers a paid summer internship to selected students. First year students receive a $3200 stipend. Students who reside in Wake, Durham, Franklin, Orange and Harnett counties commute to their internship sites at North Carolina State, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central or Campbell University. Each student is paired with a university preceptor who serves as a consultant for the required research project. Due to COVID 19, selected 2021 students completed a virtual research project. In-person or virtual research will be decided by the national American Chemical Society. Senior students receive assistance with the college, financial aid and scholarship application process. To be eligible for the NC ACS Project SEED program, students must meet specific family and academic requirements.
