The Scoop on 4th Grade
with Miss Lejsner, Mrs. Napoleoni & Mrs. Smith
May 10th, 2019
Dear 4th grade parents,
Thank you for the very thoughtful teacher appreciation gifts this week. We are very fortunate to be 4th grade teachers here at Woods Creek Elementary, and truly feel lucky to get to teach such wonderful students every day. Thank you again for thinking of us during Teacher Appreciation Week!
Also a special thank you for attending our Walk Through History and Academic Night events! We are so proud of the hard work and effort our 4th graders put into all of their work this year. It was wonderful to see so many of our 4th grade families and be able to show off a lot of amazing things that your children have accomplished this year!
Curriculum Corner
Reading & Writing
All year we have been guiding, teaching, prompting, and encouraging the students to be thinking while they are reading. Now it is finally time for them to spread their wings, and show what they can do without us as the facilitators. The students are really stepping up to the challenge of being a leader in their book club groups! Just like guided reading the students have been expected to mark their thinking on post-its in their book and then share with the group to get the discussions going.
Math
The students are so excited that we have finally started our geometry unit. We will be identifying and labeling different types angles, triangles and other shapes.
Science/Social Studies
We also have started our final tour. We have entered the West region. Please remind your 4th grader to study the states and capitals. A favorite stop so far has been Disneyland in California!
