Letter From the Principal
Dear GVES Families,
The fall weather has settled in. Once again, be sure to monitor the temperatures and send your students in with appropriate clothing to go outdoors for recess. With that being said, sometimes children do leave items behind. We have a lost and found section in the building. Please remind your child to check this area by the cafeteria if they are missing something. On November 15th, we will donate any left behind items to a local charity. We continue to make announcements daily for students to check the lost and found. Please also feel free to come in and check the lost and found if you know your child is missing something.
It was great to see our community show unity during our spirit week to Stomp Out Bullying. Our staff engaged students in learning many different ways to extend kindness and work through conflict in and out of school. Our goal is to use these educational opportunities to encourage our students to build on their relationships through respect, responsibility, and readiness. Together we can continue to spread kindness and respect by participating in these events where we show our Giant pride and come together as one community. We thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to reach out to administration if you have any questions or ideas for sharing our unity and spreading kindness.
Last week, we (Dr. Di Monte and Mrs. Feldman) met with fathers in the Green Valley community who were interested in participating in the WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program. WATCH D.O.G.S. is a nationally recognized family engagement program that invites fathers and/or father figures into the school to volunteer.
The program has two primary goals:
To provide positive male role models for students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
To provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
We have had fathers already volunteering with many positive responses from the students! To participate, all that is required is to sign up for a day (or a portion of a day) to volunteer your time. Please contact the front office for an available date if you are interested in volunteering. We look forward to having more of our dads involved in our school day!
Finally, thanks again to our wonderful volunteers for supporting our school program and most recent Fall Reading Parties. We also thank the PTA for the support provided and partnership this school year which so far includes: Movie Nights, the Ice Cream Social, the Fall Festival, upcoming Race for Education, and so much more! If you haven’t done so, we highly encourage you to join the PTA to support this tremendous partner for our school and your child.
Reminders:
Picture Retake Day is coming--November 26: Absent on Picture day? Get a second chance at a picture-perfect image! Didn’t love your picture? Simply return your original package on Picture Retake Day.
This is the final week of Quarter 1. This is a great time to check in with your child’s teacher about progress made thus far and to begin to make goals for the next quarter. Use the information you gained at conferences to create attainable goals for your children. Continue to work closely with your child’s teacher to monitor performance and learning. Your partnership makes a huge difference!
Yours,
Dr. Giuseppe Di Monte & Mrs. Hannah Feldman

Destination Imagination!
A student interest meeting will be held on Thursday, November 14 from 3:45 - 4:45. It is important to remember to send in a note so your child is able to attend. A copy of the school note is available on the website.
This meeting will be more of an introductory meeting for the kids so they can decide if Destination Imagination is a good fit for them. They may also split up into teams that day as well.
We will also need a team manager for each team. If there are any questions about what that entails you can reach out to Mike Blum - mikepblum@gmail.com. He is open to answer any questions you may have. There is also a manager training available on Nov.16 if you know you are interested and would like to attend.
We hope to see you there!
