Greetings Summit View Families and Partners,
We are officially in Spring which means in the blink of an eye we will be at the end of May already! There is still a lot of learning left, not to mention events that will keep students engaged and you coming in to see what they are up too!
To start the month of April, I am very excited for our High Interest & Career Day. Our hope for this school day event is that students will learn about various careers and areas of interest to broaden their horizons to what they could pursue in the future following graduation from High School and College. We will be welcoming over 25 individuals representing careers and interests including, but not limited to construction, engineering, meteorology, broadcasting, animal behavior, robotics, performance, art, and more! Make sure to ask your student(s) after school on April 6th what careers and interests they are excited about!
We will keep engagement strong this month with the continuation of arts programming with our community partners! Kindergartners are participating in weekly Dance Sessions by ASPIRE Dance (funded through our PTO!) First Grade is weaving skills of visual arts into their social emotional learning. Second and Third Graders are involved with SHARP Literacy this month to explore a topic with arts integrated into science (2nd grade) and social studies (3rd grade) lessons. Fourth Graders are involved with weekly visits from First Stage teachers as they explore prominent figures in history and integrate performance skills. Fifth Graders will be starting to integrate themes of the Descendants Musical into the Writing Workshop to lead into their field trip to see the Musical at Sunset Playhouse in May!
April is also a month that our third through fifth grade students put forth an extra amount of effort during FORWARD testing. The FORWARD test is our State of WI standardized test that all elementary students in grades third through fifth participate in. Standardized tests are just a small window into what students may understand about various concepts. Please know that it is our practice to know a student based on a variety of information, not just a test score, before making any decisions. We are excited about seeing the progress of our students and celebrating this with them! Please support your child(ren) at home by offering messages of encouragement. Teachers will be communicating with families about when their class is participating in the assessments.
Lastly, but certainly not least, please see below for our annual call for PTO Board and Committee Chair nominations! Being a part of a school community that you want to be a part of requires sharing your voice and taking part. Our PTO is the group that makes our favorite annual events happen and votes on ways to spend the fundraised money throughout the year. I encourage you to share your own interest and nominate others for me and our Board to reach out to!
Thank you for your continued support and partnership,
Mr. Sheskey, Principal
