Garcia Counselor Newsletter
January 2017
Welcome!
As the school counselor my goal is to help every student be the best he can be. This is accomplished through classroom guidance lessons, as well as individual and small-group counseling. I also work closely with families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies. I am thrilled for this amazing opportunity and look forward to working with each of you! Please let me know how I can best serve you.

Guidance Theme of the Month
Dear Parents,
This month guidance lessons will be on responsibility. Students will learn that being responsible means others can trust you to do things that you say you're going to do. Responsibility is the ability to make intelligent choices based on good values. Students will learn that we show responsibility when:
- You finish your work before you play
- You study hard to get the best grades you can
- You do your chores around the house
- You finish a task you promised to do
- You comply with rules at home, school and in your community
At home you can help by reviewing the virtue of the month with your child.
Teamwork makes the Dreamwork
Quick tips for Parents
A sense of Responsibility is an important key to success in all aspects of a child's life.
Children learn RESPONSIBILITY....
1. when they see responsible modeling from mom and dad
2. when chores and task are age appropriate ( even toddlers can perform simple little chores)
3. when they are expected to take care of their own responsibilities (brushing their teeth, getting their homework to and from school, making their beds, etc.)
4. when they are taught to help out in the family and the community (household chores, picking up after themselves in the park, helping in community projects)
5. when parents avoid doing for children what they can do for themselves
6. when they receive positive feedback and encouragement
