Spirit Week a Great Success
Congratulation to the 8th grade and 12th grade who won their prospective class night competitions and to our first ever Homecoming King and Queen, Brian Bristol and Ava Irazarry.
Special thanks to Mrs. Koepp, Ms. Mazzocco, Ms. Hillman, the HEAT members, and all the teachers and parents who helped make these events a great success.
Soccer Club
Any students interested in playing soccer are welcome to come out to our “Fun Friday” games. It is for all boys and girls, grades 6-12. The “goal” is to have fun and learn some soccer skills. We will plan to meet every Friday form 5-6:30 sharp. There will be some days that have to be moved. Students need to listen to announcements. Bring water, shin guards, and wear flat shoes (NO cleats!). Dinner will be served right after school (free for all) and we will head to the field shortly afterwards. For questions please email Dr. Marshall at smarshall@msaschool.org
PM Parent Pickup
Also, an important note about pick-up. Any student who is being picked up after school must be picked up in our parent pick-up loop. Asking your child to walk off campus to get picked up causes problems for the community and the private businesses that are in the neighborhood. We have a great relationship with all of our neighbors in the community, and we want to keep it this way. All parents are expected to follow the school procedure for student pick up by waiting patiently in the parent pickup loop after school.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
7th Grade Fundraiser
TeenBiz Parent Night Programs
A special thank you to all of those parents who came out to the Teen Biz Parent Night workshops on Oct. 9-11! Teen Biz is a reading program used by all reading teachers to help our students develop the necessary reading skills to succeed in not only school but life. The program allows students to read articles that they choose based on their current reading level and interest, and then continually challenges them to keep climbing up to the next lexile level. Within the program are positive rewards and the instant feedback allows students to watch themselves climb. It is encouraging and motivating for students to see their lexile levels increase. It is really one of the best programs that we have seen that truly differentiates instruction based on their needs. The workshops trained parents on how to utilize this web-based program at home, along with tools to allow parents to monitor progress. Research has shown higher achievement gains when students use this program at home. The more practice the better! Please try to develop specific goals for your children to complete articles at home. If you missed Teen Biz Parent Night we would still love to provide you with training and information. Please contact Dr. Marshall at smarshall@msaschool.org to schedule training.
PSAT at MSA
The exam will be given at MSA on Wednesday, October 25th. All 10th graders will be taking the exam and have received a PSAT test booklet to prepare for the exam. You can also practice online. Sample questions can be found by Googling CollegeBoard PSAT Test Prep.
There are limited spots for 11th grade students, so if you are interested, please sign up right away. There is a charge of $20 and you MUST sign up no later than October 18th in the Guidance Office. Taking the PSAT is a great opportunity. By taking the PSAT your scores may qualify you for scholarship monies. Many colleges and universities track the students that take the PSAT and forward information about programs offered at their college or university. If you have any questions please stop by the Guidance Office. We are happy to help you.
