Complete High School Maize
February 2023
A Note from Principal Hilliard
Hello, Wolfpack Family!
I cannot believe that we are through January; we have had a lot of successes already to kick off 2023. We brought in eight new students who are a great addition to CHSM; our mentors were amazing in getting them off to a good start. We celebrated our first graduation of the new year - congrats, Ryan! We also celebrated Rosen, Comet and Ariel's graduations in December after the newsletter went out. Congrats to all our recent graduates; we are SO proud of you!
I cannot believe conferences will be here next week. You should have received an email on Friday, 1/27 around 4pm with sign up information for conferences that will be held on Thursday, February 9th. If you didn't, this is the link https://forms.gle/UhxBQsEtmmUZda8PA - we look forward to seeing all our students with a parent that day. If you have any questions, please let me know. We are very excited about offering our financial aid (FAFSA) night the same day.
Some important reminders:
- Contracts are due - Wednesday, February 8 (1 for each class)
- If you have not paid your CHSM fees, please do so at conferences! These are $20.00 per quarter.
- 3:00 week - February 6-8 (PM buses will not run)
- No school on Thursday, 2/9 - Conferences (See email from Friday, 1/27 for details)
- No school/No Build Your Bank - Friday, 2/10
- Spring picture day - Monday, February 13
- Graduation information - Seniors planning on walking at MHS/MSHS graduation must complete all requirements by 4:15pm on Tuesday, May 9th. Adam will have information about graduation at conferences.
Attendance - You know I couldn't send a newsletter without getting in how important attendance is! I really appreciate the effort in attendance this 9 weeks. Our attendance, overall, has been much better than in the past. My favorite phone calls from parents are the ones who say, "I'm not lying for them, they wouldn't get out of bed!" Then I appreciate the students who come even on their hardest days - my motto that the kids hear a lot is, "embrace the suck!". Of course, no days at CHSM, "suck", but some days when you aren't feeling the best....it is hard to get out of bed. If there is anything we can do to help on those days, please reach out! Our goal is 100% attendance most days! It really does take a village and we are so happy to be a part of your village! Keep encouraging your students to get here every single day!! If your student reaches 1395 minutes of non-productive time (3 days of being absent or non-productive) they will bring home an attendance contract. If you have questions about it, don't hesitate to reach out. We will have non-productive totals available at conferences. Students can make up missed time in a majority of ways: come to Build Your Bank (all or part of the time 8-noon), come in early during the week (starting at 7am), leave their phone with Michelle all day (worth 120 minutes of time), ask Adam to count their tutoring time as productive time instead of elective.
Thank you for trusting us with your kids!
Michelle
Below is the email that went out on Friday, 1/27 at 4pm regarding conferences.
Good afternoon!
Conferences will be Thursday, February 9th at CHSM - I am including a link for you to sign up. https://forms.gle/UhxBQsEtmmUZda8PA The conferences in the spring are a group format. You will sign up for a time either at the top of the hour (if your student is a senior) or the bottom of the hour (if your student is an underclassmen). The information presented will be specific to those two groups of students. If you are not sure of your student's graduation date - ask them - we just went over PEPs on Wednesday. You will also have an opportunity to talk to classroom teachers if your student is not current on contracts or if they are current, you are more than welcome to stop in and see them.
We also have a great opportunity for those interested in filling out the FAFSA (and those who need to for their English contract). A friend of CHSM and financial aid rep from Butler County will be here from 5-7:30pm the night of conferences. If you are interested in filling out the FAFSA, please bring your taxes/W2 information and she will get you set up.
A reminder that conferences are not optional - a parent and their student must attend before they can come back to school. :)
We LOVE conference time and getting back in touch with parents! It takes a village and we are so happy to be a part of your village.
