GA Principal Newsletter
November 6th
Dear Families,
We had fun during our fall and Halloween festivities. Congratulations to our students and staff members for a fabulous choral concert that made us laugh, sing and dance. In addition, we'd like to thank our parents and PTO for a fun fall fest and classroom parties.
Picture retakes are on Friday, November 18th between 8:30 and 9:00 AM for those students who were absent, new to Glen Acres or are requesting a retake. If your child will be having his/her picture retaken, please have him/her turn in the proof booklet to the photographer on the morning of November 18th. We organize the students for their picture retakes.
We hope to see you at conferences the week of November 21st. As a reminder, report cards will be posted on the parent portal on December 14th. The end of the trimester is November 30th. Please see report card information below.
Enjoy the next couple of weeks!

Report Cards
Grades K-2 - WCASD utilizes standards-based reporting. Each child will receive a 1, 2, 2+, 3, or 4 for each standard addressed this trimester. N/A means that the standard has not yet been assessed. This year, your child may also receive N/A if we do not have enough data/information to accurately assess your child. Please remember the goals are end of year standards/expectations. In December, you may see many 2’s and some 1’s which is appropriate for this time of year. The expectation is that students meet the standards with a 3 by the third and final report card in June. In addition, please know that 4’s are rare to receive, even at the end of the school year. For a child to reach that level, he/she is performing significantly and consistently above the standard expectations.
Grades 3-5 - WCASD utilizes numeric grades that correspond to letter grades (A, B, C, F) for core subjects. Please know that standard grading (1, 2, 3, 4) does not correlate to a letter grade. Teachers utilize various assessments and assignments to determine an overall grade. Parents are encouraged to stay abreast of progress via Parent Portal over the course of the entire trimester. Click here to set up parent portal weekly emails if you have not already done so. This will help you stay on top of your child's grades.
· Learning support students and reading support students will receive progress reports at the same time that report cards go live on Parent Portal in December.
· LRBS- Learning Related Behaviors are assessed for all students: (NI) needs improvement, (P) progressing, or (DC) demonstrates consistently. This year, your child may receive N/A if there is not enough data/information to accurately assess the LRB.
· Special Area Subjects - For grades K-5, we utilize standards-based reporting as noted above for K-2.
Library News
We’ve had a great start in the library this school year! Some topics grade levels have studied include: Digital Citizenship, Hispanic Heritage Month, exploring new research tools such as PebbleGo NEXT, and Library classification systems.
New this year to our library are Sphero Indi cars and Strawbees! They are both great tools to help students with coding skills, collaboration, and using the Engineering Design Process.
Looking forward, we will be having a Scholastic Book Fair in spring of 2023, and starting a fifth grade book club/lunch bunch in January.
Please always feel free to email me at rkarrmann@wcasd.net with anything you may need!
