Attendance Information
In the Beaverton School District, we know that attendance matters. Research shows that chronically absent students (attending below 90%) can suffer academically. We understand that some absences are unavoidable. The important thing is to get your children to school as much as possible. Whether an absence is arranged ahead of time, or not, they can still have a negative impact on students because they represent lost learning time in class.
In the State of Oregon there are three types of excused absences. They include the illness of a student, the illness of an immediate family member, or an emergency (ORS 339.065). All other absences, even those that are prearranged, are noted as unexcused.
Attendance matters starting in Kindergarten. By middle and high school many attendance habits have been formed. Chronic absences are the leading warning sign that a student will drop out. Please do not schedule vacations during school time. Families should avoid activities that require your children to miss school. Try to line up vacations and doctor appointments with the school calendar in order to avoid missing valuable learning opportunities. Good attendance will help your children do well now and in the future.
Please refer to the following link for tips for families on building good attendance habits.

IB Learner Profile Trait for December
We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
Student Action - Global Citizens
The students learned that through Unicef the donations they collected would be used to give families clean drinking water, provide mosquito nets to protect children from malaria, buy "therapeutic food" for malnourished children, and could even buy a "school-in-a-box" which will help forty refugee children learn and heal.
Congratulations to the third graders! Together, they collected $485.68 for Unicef. By collecting money and donating it to Unicef the students from West TV showed empathy and kindness for other children around the world. They also took part in a significant action cycle which includes reflection and the conscious choice to respond to their learning.

Play - Fit - Fun
December classes are free to new families. They can try 1-2-3 classes for free, in order to get more of a feel for Play.Fit.Fun.
Please tell more parents, invite them to try us. Below is information you can send them...and under that is the description from this week's class.
- NOTE: Any new kids just cant show up. We will need the parents to email, call or text in advance...and fill out a waiver. There will be no financial obligation, unless they decide to enroll. Typically, in the past, this has been a productive way to help grow some of our classes. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

Inclement Weather
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability for students and parents to get to school safely, and the ability for employees to get to work safely and on time. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.
The District will notify parents and staff via SchoolMessenger with a Non-School Hours Emergency message. Please manage your communication preferences in SchoolMessenger InfoCenter.
