Gimkit- #60
What is Gimkit?
Gimkit is an online gamification quiz-game for students and teachers, created and maintained by students. The ability to 'shop' throughout the game creates an enticing atmosphere that continues to draw students in to the game.
Kits
Kits are the live games that you can create from scratch, import an existing quiz from Quizlet, import a CSV file, or copy and modify a kit from the Gimkit library.
When you start creating and add a question, you're able to add an image from the web using the image link, or you can upload an image from your computer that's no more than 2.5mb. You only get four possibly answer choices and the first answer choice box is where you input the correct answer.
With the free version, you're allowed up to five kits.
Classes
Classes allow you to specify people that commonly participate in Kits together; such as class periods, clubs, or tennis. Classes allow you to preset names in your class so it does not give students the ability to create nicknames. (I love this feature)
Classic and Team Mode
In both modes the teacher is able to set the amount of minutes to give all players time to earn as much money as they can before the time runs out. The teacher is also able to have all players race to reach a certain dollar amount.
The Classic and Team Mode comes with different features such as starting cash value, answer check (allow players to view correct answer), music, join in late, and shop options.
Students access the live quiz by going to gimkit.com/play and entering a numeric code.
Uses For Classes:
Live Games: When students join live games, they'll be prompted to pick their name from the class list instead of typing in their own name.
Assignments: Organize assignment completions into class sections and view missing assignments from students. The assignment feature is great to send out for independent work. You can also share to Google Classroom.
Seasons: Track student balance over the course of multiple games and assignments for more long-term competition.
'Shop' Within The Game
Upgrades
One way to get to the amount of dollars the teacher set is to upgrade and buy different features. Students are able to choose from: Money Per Question (amount of money you lose and gain per question), Streak Bonus (extra amount awarded for answering two questions correct in a row), Multiplier (every dollar in or out gets multiplied), or Insurance (only pay a percentage back when answering incorrectly).
Power Up
A different way for a student to further their way in reaching the amount of dollars the teacher set, they can PowerUp. When they're shopping under the PowerUp, they can choose the Rebooter feature (Reuse all you powerups a second time), Discounter (all shop upgrades are 25% off for 5 minutes), Mini Bonus (earnings are multiplied by 2x for a single question), and Mega Bonus (earnings are multiplied by 5x for a single question).
Themes
Students are also able to change their theme for the game if they do not like the colors. This only allows them to loose money instead of gaining money. This feature would really make it harder for students to get to the total.
