Need to know
Thank you from Mrs. Funamoto!: As we make our way into mid September, I would like to thank everyone for a great few weeks! Our routines are settling in, and as a community, we continue to work hard to give your sons a positive and safe learning experience. There will be challenges ahead, but I am so pleased by the way everyone has worked together.
Google Slide Follow-up: The purpose of posting the daily homework or weekly assignments is to keep boys who may be away due to Covid related issues, connected to their classroom community. The teacher will take attendance at the beginning of the day and if everyone is present, there will be no Zooming. If your son leaves for any reason during that day, Zoom will not be turned on. Homework will be generally posted after the lesson or at the end of the day. Our teachers evaluate what has been done in class and what was planned may not end up being homework. Zoom time is not remote learning and if your son is ill, please do not worry about attending the lessons. For short term absences, the teachers know what will need to be done when your son returns. The Google slides are not an opportunity to get ahead, but they are there to support families who are being conscientious by keeping their children home due to Covid protocols. The best place for learning is in the classroom, the teachers are trained to help students catch up on what they have missed. The younger the child, the more difficult it is to learn from these pop-in sessions. So, please do not worry! If your son is ill, and may be away for an extended period of time, the teachers will reach out to you and be there to support you and your son. With each week we are in school, we can feel proud that we are each doing our part. We are stronger together.
Grade 5 & 6 (Cycle 3 aka at SHS Band C) Breakfast Meeting: This meeting is an opportunity for parents to meet with the administration, including Ms. Springer and Mr. Downey. Agenda items will include feedback regarding the beginning of the school year and technology with Mr. Trudeau. The meeting will begin at 8:45am via Zoom (Kathy Funamoto’s Zoom Link)
After-School Program News: The After-School Program will be offering clubs this term! Clubs will begin as of Tuesday October 13th, 2020. We will be following the COVID-19 guidelines outlined by the ACQ during all clubs and after-school activities. Therefore, we are limiting the number of clubs available, as well as the number of participants per club (10-12 students each). Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. The ASP will offer: Bricks 4 Kidz, Outdoor Education, Comedy Club, and Debate Club. In order to register your son(s) for the After-School Program Clubs, please submit the registration form via email to asp@selwyn.ca or pulicee@selwyn.ca by Friday October 2nd, 2020. The registration form can be found at www.selwyn.ca/asp
Terry Fox Run: We are excited to announce, once again, that Selwyn House School will be running in the annual Terry Fox Charity Run on Friday, October 9. Please click here for more information.
From Food Services: A reminder that 90% of the meat served at Selwyn House, as well as many other items, are Kosher.
Email Spammers: Please be aware that we still have spammers who are still spoofing(imitating) Selwyn House emails from our main website and trying to contact families to give money or pay with gift cards, you will notice that the return address is not Selwyn House. This is a continued series of attempts which Mr. Trudeau emailed about in August. If you get any of these emails, please delete and ignore them, you may contact Mr. Trudeau for further assistance or to verify and confirm at trudeaujp@selwyn.ca.
