Message from Mr. Daniel Finkle
Did you know that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States?
On Thursday, May 18th we will be hosting Cruisin’ Smart® for our students. Cruisin’ Smart, a community education initiative of Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, is a unique program that brings people face to face with the consequences of driving impaired or distracted by using true-life tragedies to instruct and change attitudes. Young speakers who are survivors of life-altering injuries warn their audiences that being impaired or distracted while driving can often result in a fate worse than death.
This is a very powerful and important message we will be bringing to the student body. As part of the program, our students will be receiving 2 brochures:
“Student Safety Tips” – This brochure will include statistical information and facts/myths about the dangers of distracted driving. There will also be a reminder of how to develop a safety plan.
“Parent/Guardian Talking Guide” – This brochure is for you. It includes statistical information about distractive driving as well as tips for you on how to have a conversation with your teen about the dangers of driving impaired and/or distracted. For your convenience, there is also a contract for you and your teen to develop.
I encourage you to ask your teen about these brochures, review the information and have a life changing conversation. A survey will be done after the program concerning some of the topics. Please click HERE to view the survey and the BOE Policy on surveying students.
Please, join with me and encourage your teen to pay attention to the road at all times. Remind them of the value of “Cruisin’ Smart” and the consequences of distracted and impaired driving. If you need any additional information or have any questions, please feel free to contact me or my staff.

2017 AWARDS NIGHT
Congrats Students of the Month
Congratulations to our April Students of the Month Marylin Huerta and Vince Cottrell!
Marylin was nominated by Mrs. Jacquelyn McGhee and Mrs. Monica DeBiase for her academic performance, character, respect, class participation, school spirit, good work ethic and diligence. Marylin is both a member of the Graphic Design class as well as the Animal Lover's Club. She always enters the class with a smile and is polite, friendly and respectful. She never hesitates to help others. Mariyn is very sympathetic, empathetic and will do anything to turn a negative situation into a positive one. She puts forth great effort in class and cares deeply about her work. Marylin is very conscientious and is always the first to sign up to volunteer for the Animal Lover's Club events. She was responsible for the huge success of our latest trip to the Bronx Zoo.
Vince was nominated by Mr. Bill Bodenschatz for his character, respect, classroom participation, classroom participation, leadership responsibility and good work ethic! Mr. Bodenschatz stated that Vince is the most helpful student that he has ever taught. In almost every class, he offers to explain a different problem to his classmates without providing the answer so that they learn the concept. He calls on different students to ensure that his peers not only learn the material but are engaged during the process. This allows Mr. Bodenschatz the time to circulate throughout the classroom and see which students require further assistance.
Congratulations and thank you Marylin and Vince for a job well done!
