PRAIRIE POST
September 18, 2020
Message from the Principal
Hello Prairie Friends and Families,
I was able to visit many classrooms throughout the week and the amount of learning that I see is quite impressive! Take a look at some of the pictures below to see a few highlights. The commitment to learning, building a sense of community, and safety is clear when you travel throughout the school.
For our face to face learners... next week our learners will be learning about the MAP assessment. They will take the MAP assessment the week of September 28th. This year, along with the rest of our school district, we will take the MAP assessment three times (fall, winter, spring). The MAP assessment is one of many data points that we use to learn more about where our learners are at and what their needs are in math and literacy. Kindergarten through fifth grade students take the math portion of the MAP assessment and second-grade through fifth-grade students take the reading portion. We have a different assessment, called PALS, that we use for kindergarten and first-grade. MAP is taken on student iPads and takes anywhere from 20 minutes (for our younger learners) to an hour (for our older learners). When we introduce this assessment to our learners, we remind them to do their very best to show us what they know and we also emphasize that there is never anything to be nervous about. This assessment just helps teachers to know how to best teach each student. This should not feel like a high-pressure situation for any of our learners.
For our SDW Virtual learners... more information about when and how the MAP test will be administered will be shared with you in the near future. The MAP schedule will be different for our SDW Virtual learners than it does for our face to face learners.
We look forward to reviewing this data, along with all of the other assessment data that we collect from our learners, to better inform our instruction in order to accelerate growth for all of our Prairie Pumas!
We are Team Prairie!
We are stronger together!
