Author Visit and Book Order
To kick off March is Reading Month, we will have a visit from author Carol Trembath on Monday, March 12th.
Carol is a lifelong educator who was formerly a teacher and media specialist in the Walled Lake district. She is passionate about water preservation and protection and has written two award winning books about the Water Walkers, Native Americans who are doing a water walk around Lake Superior to raise awareness about the harm being done to the Great Lakes.
If you are interested in ordering Carol’s books, you may complete an order form and return with your money as soon as possible.
Please send the order form with checks made out to Lakeside Publishing back to the Media Center by March 7th.
Autographed books will be delivered to your student after Carol’s visit.
Any questions, please email Mrs. Entwistle at tinaentwistle@wlcd.org
We look forward to author Carol Trembath's visit to Dublin on March 12th.

Kindergarten Orientation
Incoming kindergarten parents for the 2018-2019 school year are cordially invited to attend the Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, March, 13, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at each of our elementary schools.
Kindergarten Information
Incoming kindergartners must be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2018.
Research indicates that developmentally appropriate full-day schedules benefit kindergarten children academically, socially and emotionally. Our principals and teachers understand this and are well equipped to meet the needs of our kindergarten students.
Our kindergarten students begin to learn a whole host of reading, writing and mathematics concepts and learning strategies that give them the foundation for a successful elementary school career in Walled Lake Schools.
Half Day of School
Book Fair Update and Thank You
We would like to thank all parents who purchased items at our Spring Scholastic Book Fair. Together, we sold $8,852.67 in merchandise. Dublin's Media Center will receive a profit of $2213.17 from this book fair. Thank you to our parent and staff volunteers and Mrs. Entwistle for a successful and profitable book fair.
Math Course Skipping
In planning for the 18-19 school year, our Walled Lake Math Department is planning ahead for those students and their families that may be interested in skipping a course/grade level in the math sequence.
In order to skip a course in the math sequence, students must demonstrate proficiency in the content and skills of the course they would be skipping.
Please complete this form to make arrangements to have your student take an examination to determine if they are prepared to skip the next math course in their sequence.
In order to prepare materials to accommodate your student, this form must be completed by March 29th.
Students that sign up from Dublin will be tested at Dublin on Tuesday, April 10th from 4:00-6:00 PM in the computer lab at Dublin.
If you have questions about this process, please contact Mr. John Gregg-Walled Lake Math and Science Developer at: johngregg@wlcsd.org

Local Hero Peacekeeper Award
The Walled Lake Schools Diversity Committee is seeking nominations for the “Local Hero Peacekeeper Award”. We are celebrating the “Season for Nonviolence” in the Walled Lake Schools. The “Season for Nonviolence” is observed from January 30 when Gandhi was assassinated until April 4 when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. The “Local Hero Peacekeeper Award” is another aspect of our school district’s celebration of the “Season for Nonviolence”.
The “Local Hero Peacekeeper Award” is intended to honor and recognize those individuals and organizations who promote peaceful and non-violent ways to solve problems. People may nominate students, staff members, parents, community members, or organizations who are working toward the peaceful resolution of problems and/or teach about peace and harmony to others. Individuals receiving this award will be honored at the Walled Lake Schools Board of Education meeting on May 3, 2018.
Please complete a nomination form for the “Local Hero Peacekeeper Award”. Hard copies of this form is also available in your school office or you can obtain a form by calling Alec Bender at Wixom Elementary at 248-956-3400.
Nominations are due by Thursday, March 29.

Invisible Dad Program
Through the generosity of parent donations and the planning of a few dedicated people, we are thrilled to provide the Invisible Dad lunch program at Dublin Elementary.
Every day, in our own community and in our school, children are faced with a growing form of hunger: food insecurity. Not knowing where their next meal will come from, these children are not only faced with being hungry, studies have also shown these children can face more severe issues in the future. The Invisible Dad program hopes to change that by providing the funds necessary to make sure all children have access to a full meal at lunch.
These funds are not something you or your child have to ask for or apply to receive. These funds are available without question or judgment as children go through the line at lunch. Parents will be notified privately and confidentially if their child’s lunch is paid for by the Invisible Dad. Sometimes the situation is simple and the lunch account just needs to be refilled. We ask that you refill your account and perhaps consider donating back to the program. Sometimes the situation is more complex, the money just isn’t there and won’t be there for some time. In those cases, you and your child will not have to worry again about lunch. The Invisible Dad program will step in and make sure lunch is provided.
Donations can be made by sending cash or a check to school made out to “Walled Lake Food Services” with “Invisible Dad - DUBLIN” in the memo. This is not a tax-deductible donation, this is just money from you to a child in need.
Walled Lake Schools offers free and reduced-cost lunches; the Invisible Dad program aims to solve for the short-term and one-off situations. If you would like to apply for free or reduced-cost lunch, please contact Mr. Drewno.
For more information about this program, visit www.invisibledad.org. Please contact Mr. Drewno, or Julie Rader-Food Services Coordinator (julierader@wlcsd.org) with questions.
