Week-at-a-Glance (WAAG) for Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2022
Advent – A Time of Waiting
Advent begins on Sunday!
Now the waiting has begun. We welcome the beginning of another liturgical year, which begins with the First Sunday of Advent on November 27. The four weeks of Advent are a time of waiting and preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth 2000 years ago. We are also reminded that we are awaiting the Second Coming of Christ at the end of time. At mass, we hear the priest say: “We wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.” And so, let us work diligently and faithfully at preparing our students for Advent and Christmas and for the everlasting life to come.
On Monday morning we will gather at St. Émile Parish to celebrate the beginning of Advent as a community with a mass led by Father Lester. Father Lester will be moving on to Plamondon as the pastor there and we will dearly miss him.
Blessings,
Mrs. Kleparchuk, Principal
Mrs. Crowston, Vice Principal

How to Prevent Feeling Overwhelmed
An overwhelmed feeling can be really hard to deal with. As parents, we don't need to hide uncomfortable emotions. Instead, we need to model how we manage our frustrations to prevent them from building up.
This week, Big Life Journal uses “The Tolerance Cup Analogy” to encourage your child to build their toolbox of stress-relieving strategies so that they can manage frustrations in a healthy way.
Show this to your child and try demonstrating it with an actual cup as a visual. Model and practice how you manage your uncomfortable emotions too - we can all use a little calm in our lives!

Engagement on Grades 7-12 Career Education Programming (from Minister LaGrange)
I am pleased to assist the Career Education Task Force in announcing engagement opportunities for Albertans to provide input on career education programming for students in grades 7 to 12. Led by Shane Getson, parliamentary secretary for Economic Corridors, the task force is listening to Albertans across the province to determine how to innovate and strengthen career education programming for students and employers.
From now until December 9, 2022, the task force would like to hear from students in grades 7 to 12, parents, teachers, career counsellors, post-secondary educators, employers and young adults. Albertans can share ideas at online and in-person engagement sessions in 11 communities across the province. They are encouraged to participate in their region or they have the flexibility to attend any session that works best for them. During the sessions, participants will be able to provide local insights on career education programming and hear the unique perspectives of others.
There are also online surveys for the public and students in grade 7 to 12 to provide feedback on career education programming. Albertans can register for an engagement session, take the survey and sign up for career education updates at alberta.ca/career-education-task-force.
In addition to engaging with Albertans, the task force will meet with a variety of education stakeholders to hear their viewpoints. They will also conduct a comprehensive review of Alberta’s career education programming, with a focus on grades 7 to 12. The insights from the review and engagement feedback will inform their recommendations and provincial framework for career education programming.
To build awareness of these engagement opportunities, I have attached a promotional bulletin for distribution through your communication channels. Please encourage your stakeholders to post it and share it within their communities.
On behalf of the Alberta government, thank you for your support as we continue our work to build better connections between schools and employers. Your feedback will help the task force ensure that Alberta’s future career education programming prepares students for new opportunities in our increasingly diversified labour market.
Sincerely,
Adriana LaGrange
Minister of Education
