PTA News
Important News for May and June
**Thank you to everyone who contributed monetarily and/or volunteered their time to help with the Apex Fun Run. It was tremendously successful! We beat our record from last year and earned approximately $15,000!!! Each teacher's classroom will receive 10% of the funds raised by their students. The rest goes to cover the items listed in the bullet list below.
**The week of April 29th has been dedicated to honoring our Walnut staff members during "Lights, Camera, Appreciation" Week. We've been able to show our teachers and other staff members how much we appreciate all they do for our kids by providing treats and pampering. Teachers are also loving the notes and cards brought in by students!**Our May PTA Executive Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, at 1:45 in Room 12. The General Assembly meeting will take place during Open House on May 9th.
*We hope to see you at our Restaurant Fundraiser on Wednesday, May 1st, at Country Harvest. Walnut will receive 20% of the proceeds ALL DAY. Just bring your flyer and mention Walnut.
**Field Day is coming on Friday, May 31st. This is always one of the most fun days of the year. Students in grades 1-5 participate in outdoor events, and the PTA provides snacks. Please consider volunteering to help. A flyer with more details will go home soon.
**Finally, we are hard at work preparing for the 2019-2020 school year. We Need You! Really! If you can help next year--a little or a lot--please contact your child's teacher, Mrs. Wall, or one of the current PTA executive board members--Shannon Simo, Amy Flaherty, Shannon Prachyl, or Elinor Blackburn.
This year, your donations to the PTA funded:
- All field trips for grades TK-5
- Multiple assemblies
- Additional campus safety patrol ALL YEAR
- PE and Music
- The International Dinner and the Korean Dancers
- Assignment Notebooks
- Red Ribbon Week
- Field Day
- Additional supplies for every classroom
Without the PTA, these things wouldn't happen. Please consider volunteering to be a part of PTA in 2019-2020. Our kids thank you!!!!
Meet Walnut Staff Members--Mrs. DeLeon and Ms. Knapp
Ms. Knapp grew up on a farm in Iowa but has lived in California for 30 years. She went to school is Wisconsin and is a licensed cosmetologist. She enjoys boxing, rollerblading, and going to concerts. Ms. Knapp loves animals and has a dog-sitting business as well. When asked what she enjoys about her job at Walnut, she said, "My favorite part is the kids. It's fun to watch them learn, and to offer guidance if they're having a bad day."
Mrs. DeLeon has lived in Newbury Park since she was 7 years old. In fact, she went to Maple School when it first opened. Her favorite subjects in school were math and psychology. Fun fact: Mrs. DeLeon worked for the Postal Service for 30 years, and Walnut School was part of her route! She loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking with her dogs, roller-blading, and swimming. She also likes to relax with a good book. She has three children. According to Mrs. DeLeon, "I love the people at Walnut and enjoy the energy. The kids are adorable and keep me motivated."
