Need to Know
Parent-Teacher Interviews: appointments can now be made using pickAtime, our online system for booking parent-student-teacher interviews. pickAtime will open today at 3:00 p.m. and close on Wednesday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m. The instructions for booking appointments are attached to this mailbag. Please note that interviews are not mandatory and you are always welcome to contact a teacher to arrange a phone call or alternate meeting time if that is preferable. Students are expected to attend interviews with their parents. They should be in uniform. On Thursday, February 27, please be advised that the Elementary School is in session until 2:30. Please do not park in front of the school or on Argyle prior to 2:30 p.m. as we need that area for pick up for the Elementary School.
Lost & Found: Items will be displayed on tables in the hallway to the right of Coristine Hall on Thursday, February 27th and Friday, February 28th. If your son has lost an item or items, please have a look.
Performance by the Old Boys Blues Band: February 27, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Rossy Agora. Directed by Alex Becker with a special guest performance by James McMillan (Director of Advancement, former SHS music teacher and band director). If the parent-student-teacher interviews give you the blues, come and unwind as the band play a high energy set of classic jazz and blues tunes.
Film Night Rescheduled: The Our House committee invites you to a screening of Selma in honour of Black History Month. Selma tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his followers as they marched from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in their fight for suffrage. This movie night will be Tuesday, February 25 for Grades 6 - 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Rossy Agora. Admission is a $5 donation that goes to The Council for Black Aging Community of Montreal. Snacks and drinks will be sold!
Upcoming Presentation: Hal Hannaford & Susan Doherty will give their talk on Illness, Wellness, Resilience, and Survival to all students in Grades 7 - 11 on Monday, February 24th at 9:45 a.m. It will be an interesting and somewhat emotional time. Coristine Hall will be full, but if you are interested in attending, you are welcome to come and find a space at the back.
The Argyle Shop will be closed for inventory the week of February 24th, 2020. Regular shop hours will resume on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. Mondays and Wednesdays 8 - 9:30am; Thursdays 1:30 - 3:30pm.

Red Cross Babysitting Courses offered this spring: Once again we’ve partnered with ECS (Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School) to host this certification course on two separate occasions during the month of April 2020. This 8-hour course for students in Grades 7-9 teaches first aid skills, leadership and professional conduct as a leader of young people in any capacity (babysitting, day camps, sports teams, etc.), and is also a great addition to a young person’s CV. The cost to attend either course is $70 (non-refundable after March 23), which will be billed to you. The deadline to register is Friday, March 23. For more details regarding the course content, please review the attached information and consult this website. To register your son, please email Ms. Beech with the course date you prefer:
Option 1: 1 x 8 hour session on Saturday, April 4, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Selwyn House School
Option 2: 1 x 8 hour session on Saturday, April 18, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at ECS
The re-enrollment form is due Friday, February 28. To secure your son’s enrollment for the 2020-2021 academic year please check off the appropriate box on the re-enrollment form and return this form to Ms. D. Dragone in the Business Office. It is crucial for the school’s planning that we have accurate and complete re-registration figures. The re-enrollment fee secures your son’s place for next year.
Historica Canada is offering a video contest this month called Me, Moi + Canada that we are encouraging our Middle School students to enter. Create a 30-60 second video expressing why Canada's two official languages are important to you. The deadline is February 29, 2020 and the online submission is simple. Rules and regulations, the judging rubric and ideas on what to include in the video are all available on the Me, Moi + Canada contest webpage. Prizes include a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, an all-expenses paid week in Ottawa at Encounter with Canada, a Visa Pre-Paid Gift Card for $650 and much more!
