Mrs. Burroughs and Outstanding SAHS Spanish Language Students
SAHS Spanish Students win National Recognition and College Credits
We are so proud of our San Antonio Spanish Language students some of whom placed among the top in the nation on the National Spanish Exam and others who earned 4 units of UC and CSU transferable credits by taking a credit by examination offered through Santa Rosa Junior College.
The National Spanish Exam is a motivational contest to recognize student achievement in the study of Spanish and stimulate further interest in the teaching and learning of Spanish. Over 157,000 students in the United States took the exam this year with San Antonio High School students earning national recognition. Our students not only did exceptionally well, but they did so in the most challenging category, the Bilingual Category. Under the instruction and guidance of Mrs. Burroughs, our students did better than many of the private schools in the area and across the United States. Here are the results:

Angel Island
One of the highlights of the 2016 - 2017 school year was our trip to Angel Island on May 12. Nearly all of the students and staff took part in this awesome day.
We first took a school bus down to Tiburon where we boarded a ferry to cross over the bay to Angel Island. Once there, we were given a guided tour which consisted of hiking part of the island to see incredible views, and historic buildings. We learned a lot about the history of the island -- it's use during the Civil War (a high point was when we were able to fire a cannon used during the Civil War) and how later the island became a place to hold and process immigrants from China and Japan.
After a picnic lunch on the island, we headed back to school. We want to especially thank the Angel Island Conservancy for making this trip a reality for the students and staff of San Antonio High School!

Warm Springs Fish Hatchery Field Trip
On May 19th, San Antonio High School students in Mrs. Morilla's Biology and Physical Science classes took a field trip to the Warm Springs fish hatchery at Lake Sonoma to release the fish they had hatched and grown over the last six weeks.
The students learned a lot of interesting things about fish such as how they swim from the hatchery to the Russian River, then out the the Pacific Ocean where they stay for a couple of years so they can grow. The students also learned that in mid February they could go fishing with a sibling, and if they catch a fish, they can take it home for dinner.
It was a fun and educational field trip, and the students are very grateful to Mrs. Morilla for putting organizing this experience for them.
