Debunking the Gap Trap and Other Risky Reasoning
Register today!
Fluency is described as the ability to compute with accuracy, flexibility, and efficiency (Adding It Up, 2001). Fluency is not a fixed ability, but rather grows and develops through ample opportunities to practice and use different strategies. During this session will discuss common misconceptions and risky reasoning techniques when working with fractions and look at:
· Developing fluency through using concrete models, drawings, and symbols
· Investigate teaching strategies and tools that students can use to acquire understanding and develop flexibility and efficiency
· Ways to facilitate discussions to exchange ideas and perspectives
