2017 Summer Reading Special Programs
Animal World Experience
Thursday, July 13, 1 p.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: All ages
Learn about animals and their homes from animals themselves. This is an interactive presentation that will allow children to pet animals and learn about animal habits. Animals range from the cute and cuddly to the slippery and slimy.
Fiddlin N’ Fun
Friday, July 14, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 3-7 years old
Join us for an afternoon of making music. Children will be introduced to single stringed instruments that they will be encouraged to try. Children won't have to sit still in this program as there will be movement, singing, games, and a whole lotta fun!
Biomes Marine Biology Center Visit
Thursday, July 20, 1 p.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: All Ages
Before you hit the beach, know what's in the water! Staff from the Biomes Marine Biology Center will be at the library with numerous marine animals commonly found in Narragansett Bay. In this educational and fun program, children will be able to touch the animals and learn about their habitats, ecology, and behaviors from a Biomes educator.

Make It, Take It Mondays
New Craft begins Monday, July 3 through August 2, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Glocester Manton Librarsy
Age Level: 5 years old and up *Younger children may require parental assistance.
Children are invited to "drop in" to the Glocester Manton Children's Room for a weekly "Build a Better World" craft. There will be a new craft each Monday, available during library hours through Friday.
Playdoh Pals
Wednesday, July 5, 12, 19, 26, and August 2, 10 a.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: 2-5 years old
Children will be encouraged to explore using different colors of Playdoh and Playdoh utensils. Different home-made Playdoh recipes will be made in our kitchen and discussed. Playdoh is a fun way to entertain children, but it is also a great way to build fine motor skills that will enable children to use writing utensils.
Tot Lot Tuesdays
Tuesday, July 11, 18, 25, and August 1, 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library Playground
Age Level: 1-3 years, with caregivers
Join us for a condensed version of Storytime, followed by playground fun! Feel free to bring your picnic lunches and stay as long as you'd like. *Note: We will read indoors in inclement weather.

Age Level: 7 years and up
Escape the heat and play some fun, hands on games such as "Don't Break the Ice," "Simon," and "Battleship," in our air conditioned Community Room.
Move It Mondays!
Monday, July 17, 24, and 31, 6 p.m., Harmony Playground
Age Level: 5-10 years old
Children will have the opportunity to play, run, and jump outside the library. Field Day type events will be set up for children to get moving and learn about sportsmanship while burning off some energy.
LEGO Batman Movie
Friday, July 21, 3 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 5-10 years old
Watch LEGO Batman defend Gotham in this PG rated movie. During the movie, LEGOs will be available for children to build and create. The library will provide light refreshments to enjoy during the show.
Marble, Tracks & Ramps
Thursday, July 27, 11 a.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: 5-9 years old
Pow! Science!, an educational toy store in Wakefield, Rhode Island, will have staff at the Harmony Library to help children explore using marbles, tracks, ramps, and gravity. Children will be broken up into groups to test ramp systems using blocks and marbles.
Family Fort Night
Friday, July 28, 7 p.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: All Ages
Families are invited to experience the library after hours as we build family forts. Feel free to bring any fort building supplies you might need and we'll have some on hand as well. We will have s'mores and read by flashlight.
Teen/Tween Programs
Henna by Heather
Tuesday, July 11, 12 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: Ages 10 and up
Henna art is temporary body art that is known for its beautiful ornate designs, but it is also meaningful. Learn about the cultural and historical aspects of henna art and view various henna designs. Each participant will receive a free professional design.
Filmmakers’ Workshop
Monday, July 17, 3 p.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: Ages 10 and up
Providence Children's Film Festival professionals will show participants what it takes to create a film. Participants will watch a short film and then take a hands on approach in their own filmmaking activity.
Safe Sitter Class
Monday, July 24, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 11 - 14 years old
Learn childcare essentials, the basics of child development, infant and child CPR, care of a choking child, and more.
Note: A $50 fee due to Miriam Hospital, payable by check only, upon registration. Please drop off your check at the Glocester Manton Library shortly after registering.
Adult Programs
Summer Drawing Challenge
Wednesday, June 21 to September 21, submit to Glocester Manton Library
If you like to draw and want to improve your skills, or if you want to reduce your stress levels, take the Summer Drawing Challenge. During the 93 days of summer, you are asked to complete 30 drawings/sketches from a list of 50 prompts. When you finish, you will receive an artist grade drawing pad, pencils, pen, and kneaded eraser.
Glocester Libraries’ Walking Club
Wednesday, July 5, July 12, July 19, July 26, and August 2, 8 a.m., Glocester scenic locations
Each walk will range from 45 minutes to one hour and the location will vary weekly. If you love to walk but hate going alone, this is a great opportunity to meet fellow walking enthusiasts and discover new places to go. Note: Don't forget sunscreen and insect repellent. Trails of this type typically feature sections with rocks, stumps, and tree roots to maneuver.
Introduction to Zentangle Workshop
Monday, July 10, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, fun and relaxing way to create beautiful images using structure patterns. Local artist Bonnie Luther, a certified Zentangle instructor, will lead this workshop. All supplies will be provided including two tiles.
Upcycled Feed Bags
Tuesday, July 11 and July 18, 6 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: Adult
Using a little creativity and a sewing machine, you will create a tote bag from a feed bag with great graphics on it! This program is intended for beginner or intermediate sewers. All materials including sewing machines will be supplied.
Plein Air Plus
Wednesday, July 12, 19, and 26, 6 p.m., Glocester scenic locations
Age Level: Adult
Have you ever drawn with the earth underfoot and the sun your source of light? If not, you should follow the path of countless artists and give it a try. We will explore this art form by visiting a variety of local landscapes, including an old barn, a water feature, and a 19th Century church. In the event of inclement weather, participants will have an opportunity to draw a challenging still life in the Community Room at the Glocester Manton Library.
