Delran High School Broadcast
January 26, 2017
Message from Mr. Finkle
If you and your child wish to change any of the academic recommendations and take a higher level course, a Scheduling Waiver Form must be completed and submitted to Mrs. Kitty Newman, Guidance Secretary. The deadline for waiver forms is March 29, 2017. There are no exceptions for late waivers.
Quarter 2 grades will be posted on the parent portal on Tuesday, January 31st. We will have a breakfast celebrating all those students who achieved Principal's List for Quarter 2 on Wednesday, February 8th.
Tomorrow, January 27th, our Juniors and Seniors will have an assembly program entitled Military Opportunities Day. All branches of the armed forces will be in attendance to discuss the many different possibilities that the armed forces have to offer. In their words, "In today's economy, military pathways can be strategic to students' success. High school and college graduates need to be highly competitive in order to enter the workforce. The military will offer that competitive edge by providing work experience, technical skills in high-demand fields, credentialing, and cost-free undergraduate and graduate degrees." We look forward to a very informative program tomorrow.
FAFSA Reminder for Seniors
Please visit these website pages at www.HESAA.org and www.NJFAFSADays.org. There, you will find a YouTube video on how to file the FAFSA, information on how to create an FSAid (Federal Student Aid ID) and the 8 Steps to Apply for Federal & State Student Aid. Also featured online is a helpful PDF file provided in both English and Spanish. If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Austin at saustin@hesaa.org or 609-588-3300, ext. 1402.
AP Exam Registration Information
AP students will receive the Bulletin for AP Students and Parents as well as a registration form on Wednesday, February 1st. Please review this information with your child. Encourage him/her to sign up to take the AP Exam even if he/she is already registered for the CAP Program. The deadline to register for AP testing is Wednesday, March 1st. The exam fee is $93.00.
For students who are enrolled in the federal lunch program, AP Exam fee subsidies vary from year-to-year. There is usually a federal contribution as well as a College Board contribution to help defray the cost for students. We should have some information by late February, but the specific discount will not be confirmed until late April or May. Last year, the entire cost was covered, but that’s no guarantee that the same will happen this year.
Checks must be made payable to DHS Special Funds. Please submit your payment along with the registration form. Also, if your child receives accommodations through an IEP or 504, he/she must apply to the College Board for AP accommodations by Friday, February 17th. Please contact Mrs. Lena Galati with questions.
Available Scholarships
Please check the DHS website for all available scholarships. Scholarships are updated daily. This is a great opportunity for your child to earn money for college tuition. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Andrea James, Guidance Counselor, at extension 3010.
Alumni Walk
Delran High School is proud to reintroduce the, ”DHS Alumni Walk.” The project is designed to provide the graduating seniors and DHS Alumni the opportunity to make their legacy a permanent piece of the landscape of Delran High School. This is the third year of the project, and we are hopeful to pave our way past the ticket booth this year. The project will allow members of the Delran High School family to congratulate, memorialize, and archive their relationships, memories, and friendships fostered here at DHS. Please consider buying a brick and making your legacy a permanent piece of DHS’s path to success. Please submit the order form with your payment to Mr. Brian Stolarick, Assistant Principal. Checks must be made payable to DHS Special Funds.
