Bath Bombs
A few of our elementary study groups made bath bombs for Mother's Day presents! Bath bombs add fizz and fragrance to the bathing experience.
What do owls eat?
Sixth grade students studying ecosystems investigate owl pellets to determine the types of rodents in an area. Using diagrams of human and rodent skeletons, they each reconstructed one complete skeleton.

What a special and FUN evening our high schoolers had at the prom! Thank you and congratulations to our hard working ASB students - your planning and setting up the decorations, food, and music made a memorable evening for all!

Testing/Class Calendar for May 2018
Important!
Here is the testing/class calendar for the month of May, which will affect all students' schedules. Please review it carefully.
This week, May 14 - May 18
- AP Exams will be taking place all week, Monday through Friday
- There will be no AP study groups
- All other elementary and secondary study groups and extracurricular activities will be held as usual.
- In consideration of students taking their AP exams, please be quiet on campus and avoid playing on the upper elementary playground.

Friday, May 18 by 3:00 pm
Grades 6 thru 12: Please take all of your work to your supervising teacher first. After your supervising teacher reviews it, then take your subject work to each of your subject teachers.

All parents are invited to attend the School Site Committee (SSC) meeting. The SSC is a shared decision-making body composed of parents, staff, and students. Talent Showcase & Silent Auction
Thursday, May 24 / 5:00 / Auditorium
Calling all students, parents, staff, families, and friends to come enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment at Mt. Everest Academy’s annual Talent Show & Silent Auction! Students from grades K-12 will showcase their talents, there will be free light refreshments and drinks, and the Silent Auction will have exciting gift baskets and gift certificates to bid on. This is Mt. Everest’s biggest fundraiser event of the year, and one hundred percent of all funds raised will directly benefit student learning and school activities.

Tickets: $5
- Tickets may be purchased ahead of time in the office (by check or cash-exact change please)

Mt. Everest Academy Receives Silver Medal
Mt. Everest Academy has been recognized as one of the 2018 Best High Schools in the U.S. News High School Rankings! Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.
Mt. Everest received a silver medal and ranked:
- #511 in National Rankings
- #88 in California
U.S News High School Rankings evaluated more than 20,500 public schools across the country, using data on graduation rates and state test scores. For the 2018 Best High Schools, it recognized 5,948 top-performing schools with numeric rankings, and awards of gold, silver or bronze, depending on their level of college readiness.

Mt. Everest will be having a Student Art Show on May 31, showcasing art from all MEA students.

LIBRARY MATERIALS (books, DVDs, Phonics Readers, Time Readers) are due by Thursday, May 24.
TEXTBOOKS are due as soon as you are finished with them, or by June 13 at the latest.
For SENIORS: All textbook and library materials are due by Tuesday, June 5 (see Graduation Checklist)

Silent Auction Donations
Please help! We need more silent auction donations to make this year's fundraiser a success! The money raised will pay for almost all the student activities on campus. We appreciate anything that you can contribute.
Donations needed by FRIDAY, MAY 18, so they can be organized and wrapped.
All students should donate something for their grade level themed basket as well as any other items you can offer including:
Other Donation Ideas
- Gift certificate for one month of classes where your child takes a class (i.e. - karate, dance, etc)
- Donation of service from a friend or family business (i.e. hairstylist could offer one shampoo/cut/style)
- Donation of an electronic device from someone who has 'perks' through their office (i.e. IPOD, tablet, digital camera, etc)
- Donation of an overnight stay or your timeshare you never use (do you have points or a timeshare you never use that could become a donation/staycation?)
- Donation of tickets (Do you have tickets to a game or show you are not able to attend after 4/22?)
- Photography (Are you a photographer looking to donate a session and get some advertising by putting your name out in our event?)

Lost & Found
If you've lost something, please remember to check the Lost & Found in the office! All items that have not been picked up by the end of the school year will be donated to charity.
Returning to Mt. Everest Academy next year?
If you are planning on returning to Mt. Everest Academy next year, please come to the office to pick up your 2018-19 enrollment packet. These forms must be completed every year. Return completed forms and a current proof of address (i.e. SDG&E, water, cable, or phone bill) to the office as soon as possible.

Yosif brings home the Gold
Yosif Shaheen, grade 4, performed at the CMEA (California Music Educators Association) Solo and Ensemble Festival on May 12th in San Bernadino. He was awarded the highest ranking, a Gold Medal, for his violin solo!

These talented young Mt. Everest Academy musicians performed last week at the SDUSD Debut Instrumental and Choral Honor Concert at Point Loma Nazarene University!

Mesa College Hackathon Event
Friday, June 1
San Diego Mesa College is hosting SDCCD's first hackathon, MesaHacks, on Friday, June 1st at the Mesa Commons from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
The hackathon theme is sustainable living.
A hackathon is an event in which programmers, designers, and more come together to collaborate on the development of a product. Over the duration of the event, students will learn about new technologies and build connections with others along the way.

A new newspaper has started in our area, "Clairemont Connections." One of their goals is to include information about local schools in their publication. We anticipate sharing happenings at Mt. Everest Academy in their paper.
