Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
It's hard to believe we are approaching Winter Break! Each day, our students come to school excited to see their friends and curious about what they will learn. Thank you for sharing your students with us! I hope you are able to enjoy time with family and friends over the upcoming break. And please be sure your children read EVERY DAY!
I wanted to share some information about school funding. Every two years our state publishes a new budget. Most of the funding for our public schools comes from the State of Oregon. If the state keeps funding levels for the next two years at the same level it has been last year and this year, then the Beaverton School District will need to cut $22 million for next year to address the increase in a range of costs. However, we don't yet know what the new two-year budget will be, so there are no final decisions at this time.
Would you like more information about the upcoming budget cycle? Please plan to join me at Cedar Park Middle School on January 16 at 6:30pm. At this event, you will have an opportunity to learn about the school funding process, to learn more about the various things that are funded in our district, and to provide input to our district as we put together our budget for next year.
Why is the meeting at Cedar Park? We have found that this opportunity for input is better when staff, families, and community members from different schools and different levels gather together to share ideas. Families and community members from the other elementary schools that feed into Cedar Park are also invited.
I hope to see you at Cedar Park on January 16 at 6:30pm!
Kind Regards,
Christy
Read! Read! Read! - Cedar Mill Library has Leveled Books for your Reader
Over the Holiday Break, please do your best to make sure students read at least 30 minutes every day. Daily reading will help students maintain the skills they’ve been learning this year.
Please visit the Cedar Mill Library website for a list of leveled books that are just right for your reader. Happy reading!
Don't let Exclusion Day sneak up on you! All students must be up to date with immunizations before the state exclusion day of February 20, 2019. Students who are not up to date will be excluded from school. Please review your student’s immunization record with your health care provider and provide any needed documentation.
The Beaverton School-Based Health Center, located on the campus of Beaverton High School, 13000 SW 2nd Street, will remain open during Winter Break with the regular business hours; Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Health Center will be CLOSED on Tuesday, December 25 and Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
Staff are able to administer immunizations. Patients and their families are encouraged to call ahead for appointment times and any questions they may have about services.

Clothing Donations Needed
We are in need of specific clothing items for our students. Sometimes students need a change of clothes during the school day. We try to have clothing available when needed. We have run out of certain types and sizes of clothing. We are in need of:
- Girls leggings size extra-small, small, and medium (new or gently used)
- Boys sweat pants size extra-small, small and medium (new or gently used)
- Girls underwear size small (must be new)
- Boys underwear size medium and large (must be new)
Thank you very much for your generosity!
Attendance is a Priority at Terra Linda
Every day students are missing valuable instruction time by arriving late and departing early. It is important for your student and all students in their classroom that they are on time and ready to learn each day. Please do all possible to arrange appointments after school or on non-school days.
Early Release Wednesdays
We want to keep you informed about how our teachers are collaborating during Early Release time on Wednesdays. Here are a few examples from this week:
1st Grade
We used our collaboration time to examine our penguin unit from last year. We improved it to fit the needs and learning styles of our current students. We are grateful to have the time to review curriculum.
4th grade:
We dug deep into the writing and reading Units of Study in order to tailor the instruction to meet each of our students’ needs. We were able to analyze student writing work to determine personalized mini lessons and coaching that we could apply to each student.
5th Grade
We were able to accomplish several things during our collaboration time! We worked together to asses the final drafts of our personal narratives from our classes. We looked at the report card and discussed our grading systems and how to make them work best for our students.
