The Magic Flute
The Magic Flute, presented by The MEA Theatre Company and directed by MEA Senior, Adira Rosen, was a huge success! Through Adira's excellent tutelage, students blossomed into their roles, personifying their characters with confidence. One scene flowed effortlessly into the next, giving the show a very professional feel, which was supported by students working behind-the-scenes. Bravo to all the students involved in this production of The Magic Flute!

Many thanks to parent Dana Dirks for taking and sharing these wonderful pictures!
MEA Students tour a water facility
Some of the students from the AP Environmental Science class toured the SD Pure Water Facility. They learned about how San Diego is turning wastewater into pure clean drinking water at the facility and they even got to sample some of the water!
8th graders unlock their genius!
Last Friday, twenty-four students accompanied by Mr. Zappala and Mr. Nielsen attended a workshop at the California Art Institute entitle "Unlocking the Genius". In the previous month, the students had taken two different surveys to identify possible career paths and strengths. This information then drove four breakout sessions entitled, My Strengths, My Personality Traits, My High School Road Map and Applying My Genius. We were also given a tour of the magnificent Art Institute's facilities. Students bonded over solving real world problems (i.e. the water crisis in Flint, Michigan), playing games, planning their futures and designing tools.

As well as being entertained by our talented students, part of the fun of this annual event is bidding on exciting gift baskets and certificates. Each grade level teacher will be collecting items for a theme basket. Find out what your theme is by asking your supervising teacher. Parent "Apprentice" & Volunteers for Talent Show Needed!
The MEA Annual Talent Show and Silent Auction is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2017. We are in need of parent volunteers to ensure this event is a success! Adira Rosen, current MEA senior and MEA theatre Director has graciously offered to organize the show. However, we need a parent who is willing to help run the show in future years to be her “apprentice” this year since she is graduating (sniff, sniff). We also need parents to help with set up and breakdown. If you are interested in helping in any capacity or have further questions, please email Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net. (Remember, the show can’t go on without the help of volunteers!)
Advice for New Families?
Attention MEA Families!
Do you have any advice you would share with new families to help them get acclimated and even succeed at MEA? Is there something that you wish someone would have told you that would have really helped? The SSC committee is creating an online resource for families who are new to MEA or whose students are moving up to middle or high school. We are looking for your advice on organization, time management, turn-in packets, resources, trouble-shooting, and more. Please use this link to send us your input by the end of April. Thank you!
Come get your awards!
If you received an invitation to the awards ceremony but were not able to attend, your award certificate is waiting for you in the front office. And for straight A students, you will also receive a medal. Please come pick your awards up, and Congratulations!
