MEA School Photo
Our area superintendent, Mr. Bruce Bivins, is creating an Area 1 poster, which includes Mt. Everest Academy and has requested a group photo of our students. Any students that would like to represent MEA in this poster, please come to the lunch court area this Tuesday at 12:00 noon for a group photo. Students will be grouped together to form the letters M, E, and A. If possible, please wear either a Mt. Everest Academy shirt or our school colors (blue & yellow). The only requirement is parent approval and your smiling face!

Parents and students needed for SSC and SGT!
The Mt. Everest Academy School Site Council (SSC) and Site Governance Team (SGT) each have one (1) open parent position and two student positions for a two-year (2016 – 2018) term. If you and/or your high school student are interested in running for School Site Council and/or Site Governance Team, please submit your name and a short (3-4 sentence) biography to Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net or bring it in to MEA’s Front Office. The deadline for submitting your name for candidacy is Tuesday, September 20, 2016.
You may be wondering, “What exactly are SSC and SGT?” The School Site Council consists of elected members representing parents, teachers, students, the school principal, and other school employees, each of whom serve a two-year term. This group is responsible for reviewing the school's improvement plan and allocating fiscal resources to support Mt. Everest Academy's goals in the areas of curriculum development and instruction. The State Legislature, as well as the Mt. Everest Academy teaching staff and administration, believes that the best decisions are made by those individuals who are most affected by them.
The Site Governance Team is a shared decision making body required at each school by the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education. The team discusses issues, gathers input and makes recommendations about topics affecting our school and our children with an emphasis on the instructional program.
The SSC and SGT will meet a minimum of six times during the year, and meetings will usually be scheduled on Wednesdays from 2-3.
We greatly appreciate your willingness to support Mt. Everest with your time!

GOT MATH??
To: MEA Students in grades 6-8 and their Parents
Come help represent MEA in our county-wide competition coming up in mid-February, at UCSD, called MathCounts 2016-17.
Last year we came in 3rd in the New Schools Category.
This will be the second year of our MathCounts Club to get ready for this competition. We plan to meet Mondays from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm in the Cafeteria (or Room 13) to conduct math practice sessions to strengthen math understanding and methods of problem solving. The main Coach is Randy Shimabukuro, the assistant coach is Mr. Norm Negus.
We need at least 4 MEA students to participate in the competition. The students do not have to come every week, but it should help their math skill building if they do so.
Parents are welcome at any time. Please email us for further information and/or confirmation of interest if you wish: rshimabukuro@gmail.com, or nnegus@cox.net.
Thank you,
Norm Negus and Randy Shimabukuro
