Message from Mr. Banerjee
As per Premier Legault's announcement, we will continue with our hybrid schedule. Please check the school calendar for In-Person days. I'd also like to inform all parents that we had a senior school assembly to review the importance of wearing masks (in class and outdoors while at school), grade level entry and exits, staying seated while eating lunch and remaining in respective pod classrooms. We emphasized the significance of following these protocols to keep everyone safe and remain open.
We are proud to honour two students from each grade level in Senior School every month in recognition of going above and beyond Veritas culture. Congratulations to the March Veritas students! We thank them for their outstanding contributions!
First Canadian in space visits Selwyn House: For teachers as well as students, having been the first Canadian in space gives one greater credibility than having served in the Canadian Parliament, or in Cabinet as Minister of Transport and Foreign Affairs, or being named a Member of the Order of Canada. Marc Garneau, MP for NDG-Westmount and Canada’s first astronaut, visited Selwyn House via Zoom on April 1 to speak to members of the school’s Space Club. About 20 students and teachers attending the meeting wanted to know about Garneau’s space exploits more than his political career. Read more.
Morning exams begin at 8:30 AM and afternoon exams begin at 1:00 PM.
FREE VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS OF TEENAGERS: CIUSSS West Central Montreal is offering workshops to parents of teens on topics such as effective communication, conflict resolution, and setting limits. See the flyers in English and in French for dates and registration information. Please note you must register in advance.
1000 Acts of Kindness: For detailed information about this 10-week initiative, visit this slide presentation and learn how parents, students and staff are participating in the “1000 Acts of Kindness” challenge.
- Week 2 Update: On Saturday, Beck Majdell and Phil Bergeron (Ms. Prieur's husband) and Mr. Grier delivered over 3,000 sandwiches and loads of comfort food to the less fortunate and less comfortable people among us. About 1000 sandwiches were prepared by the SHS community and another 2000 sandwiches were prepared by Lisa Witt, her "Roadies" and a very large community of people supporting the Montrealers for Montrealers facebook page and movement. The food was delivered to the following locations: La Maison Benoit, Accueil Bonneau, Parc Emilie Gamelin, La Maison du Père and Cabot Square. It was all part of the school’s “1,000 Acts of Kindness” Campaign, Week 2: Montrealers for Montrealers sandwich challenge. Read more.
Week 4 “Walk Miles in my Shoes” Challenge April 8 - 14: Over the course of two consecutive days in the week, walk or run a total of 18,000 steps or 15 kilometres. Once completed, go to the Week 4 Form and enter both your name and number of steps.
A Reminder for Grade 11 Families - The Class of 2021 Grad Gift
Please be reminded that this year's Grade 11 Grad initiative (a limited edition art sale to create a class bursary) is being offered to Grade 11 families until April 9th, after which date it will be offered to our broader SHS community, including families of our students in other grades, our faculty members and members of the wider Old Boys' Association. In honour of our boys and their commitment to establish a meaningful legacy for SHS, please support this incredible Grad initiative; this year’s graduates and their families can lead the way. Together, we can reach our goal to establish an enduring Class of 2021 Bursary! Please read the email that was sent last week regarding this great initiative or read more about it on this link: Please purchase your print today! For more information, contact Mary Ann Cloherty, Mikey Feldman or Lloyd Feldman.
Stronger Together Annual Giving Campaign From the Advancement Office
Parent Giving Update: As we embark on these last three months of our Annual Giving Campaign, we encourage all Selwyn House parents to participate if you have not already done so. Our numbers are on the rise! 23.9% of current parents have made a contribution thus far. Thanks to the SHS community, we have raised $247,260 towards our $500,000 goal for Covid-Relief efforts, exceptional programs, professional development and bursary support. Gifts don’t have to be large to make a difference – every single gift is important. In this time of uncertainty, as Covid concerns continue, we are incredibly grateful for all contributions. When we join forces, we are Stronger Together. To participate: Donate online or send a cheque payable to the Veritas Fund. For more information, please contact Mary Ann Cloherty (514) 931-9481 x 2294 clohertym@selwyn.ca
