Modern Masters Art Exhibition
The trip to the Modern Masters of Latin America art exhibition in the San Diego Museum of Art was enriching and inspirational! Thank you to Mrs. Mullen and Mr. Cate for leading this outing!
Fitnessgram Stars!
Turns out that MEA has some Fitnessgram overachievers! We caught a few of them here, running way beyond the pacer test requirement of 27 laps. Fayyad, grade 7, ran the farthest at 66 laps.

Midsummer Night's Dream
The Mt. Everest Academy Theatre Company proudly presents "A Midsummer Night's Dream," directed by Erin Petersen. Show times:

Japanese Internment Camp Survivors
Thursday, March 15 / 10:30-12:00 / Auditorium
Come join us in welcoming Mas and Grace Tsuida to Mt. Everest Academy. This event is open to MEA students, parents, and family members. The content is more appropriate for middle school and high school.
Mas and Grace will be speaking about their life in San Diego before World War II, and what it was like after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, to suddenly be declared "Enemy Aliens," and forced to leave their homes, friends, and family businesses behind to relocate to Internment camps in the western wasteland areas of the country.
Please come a little early to get seated, as we will begin at 10:30. Plan for time to drive and park. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Patterson at mydividog@yahoo.com

Senior Portraits

Lifetouch Photography will be coming to Mt. Everest Academy to take Senior Portraits. You may choose what you'd like to wear; Lifetouch will supply Caps/Gowns and Tuxedos/Drapes, or you may wear your own clothes. Portrait packages will range from $24-$62. The portraits will be used in the yearbook. Please plan to be there!

I.D. Cards
The I.D. cards from Make-Up Picture Day are finally here! We apologize for the delay in getting them to you, but there were several issues in getting them printed correctly. Cards for students (and parents) in grades K-4 have been given to the elementary supervising teachers. For other grade levels (and parents), please pick up your I.D. card in the computer lab.
BOX TOPS
We have just submitted 1008 box tops for a total of $100.80 for our school! Thanks to all who submitted Box Tops, please keep them coming! There are collection boxes in the office and the Parent Room.
No nuts in rooms 10, 11, 12
Due to students with severe allergies, we are asking everyone (students, staff, and parents) that goes into rooms 10, 11, and 12 to not take in any foods with nuts or nut products. We thank you for complying with this!

David Rubenstein Scholarshp
The David Rubenstein scholarship is looking for students of Jewish descent who demonstrate a financial need and plan on attending an approved college, university or vocational school in the Fall of 2018.
5-11th graders: Choose your classes for next year!
From February 26 - March 9, students in grades 5-11 will have the opportunity to plan their classes for the next school year.
Grades 5, 6, 7
Students will receive articulation sheets listing course options for next year during study groups the week of Feb. 26. Parents should review course options with their student at home. Students must return the articulation sheet with a parent's signature to their supervising teacher. If there are any changes needed, please mark the change before returning. For questions, please contact the student's supervising teacher.
Grades 8, 9, 10, 11
Mr. Zappala will meet with each student individually to assist in choosing course options for next year, including community college courses for students entering 11th and 12th grade. Parents should review course options with their student at home. Students must return the articulation sheet with a parent's signature to Mr. Zappala. If there are any changes needed, please mark the change before returning. For questions, please contact Mr. Zappala.

If parents would like to schedule a conference with Mr. Zappala regarding next year's course options and to review their student’s four year plan, appointments will be available from March 12 - March 23, in half-hour increments between 8:30-2:30.

To enhance the experience of meeting Mas and Grace Tsuida here at MEA next week, several great books on Japanese Internment Camps have been put on display in the library!
March Library Challenge
For this month’s library challenge, you will need to know a little about how libraries work. Miss Vivian read “The Great Dewey Hunt” last week during library time to help students learn about call numbers and the Dewey Decimal system. Check out our library’s website: mealibrary.weebly.com to find out how to log in to our school’s catalog database that will help find the answers to many of these.

Weekend for Homeschool Students at Pali Institute
April 27-29
Join Pali Institute for a special weekend for Homeschool students.
Homeschool students (ages 9 and up) and their parents are invited to experience the Pali Institute curriculum. 4th through 10th grade students will be assigned to pre-determined age appropriate classes in Science, Leadership and Outdoor Education, along with games and evening activities through the weekend.
