Our 5th grade team has been practicing to get ready for the event under the direction of our Coaches Ms. Eckert, Mr. Resch and Ms. Santiago. Vision Screen
On Monday November 11th, volunteers from the Waukesha Lion’s Club will be at Hadfield to screen students in 4K, 2nd, 4th grade and referrals for vision problems. All screeners have been certified by Prevent Blindness and the Lion’s Club Members. They will be using new equipment called Plus Optix that is able to detect possible problems within the eye. Screening takes less than 1 minute per child and is done by having the child look into a box that resembles a camera from a few feet away. Most children report that it is much like having a picture taken. You will receive information about your child’s results in the event your child failed the screening. Please call the school health room if you have any questions or concerns (262) 970-1515.

A Message from Mrs. Dohlby & Mrs. Gosling
10 Ways Parents Can Support Elementary Age Children
- Be aware and informed about child developmental milestones. If your child is not meeting these milestones, contact your teacher to get your child the support they need.
- Be active at your child’s school. This is critical to your child’s success in school.
- Be engaged in your child’s life, especially when they are very young and may not be sure of themselves. Model appropriate behavior, rather than follow the "do as I say, not as I do" model. Kids learn from what they see.
- Make sure your children have developed proper social and emotional skills for their age.
- Listen to your children and be attentive to how to respond to them based on their personality. Each child is different.
- Be supportive and hands-on, but know when to back away and give your child an opportunity to fail. This helps children grow emotionally and learn from their experiences.
- Don’t do everything for your child. Allowing them to make mistakes in a safe environment is a way to help them develop a sense of mastery and responsibility.
- Advocate for your child.
- Ask questions to your child and school staff. No question is silly.
- Get involved in the PTA and ensure the community is aware of the mental health needs of children in your community.

Tuesday, September 24th
6:00 - 8:30 pm
2810 Golf Road

Substance use and addictive behaviors have been in the media for the past several years. These stories include the opioid crisis, increased legalization of marijuana, readily available CBD oil and increased vaping advertisements. In addition, recent studies have demonstrated the correlation between addictive behaviors (such as gaming, sexting and gambling) and increased substance use. This presentation will present an overview of these behaviors and the resulting impact on an adolescent’s brain and subsequent substance use. In addition, the hidden costs and dangers of marijuana and vaping will also be discussed. Lastly, practical applications for parents will be presented.
All Parents United presentations are FREE and open to the public.
