Titans' Times
Week-at-a-Glance (WAAG) for Feb. 6-8, 2023
Spreading Love & Kindness
A special thank you to our Grade 1 & Grade 2/3 class for creating these beautiful pieces of artwork to put together a "Learn Blossom Grow" mural in the division 1 hallway.
This is a great reminder that "little acts of kindness make the world a better place!"
Over the coming weeks, we will be focusing on love and kindness as we reflect on Random Acts of Kindness and Valentine's Day, and this reminds us to always show love and kindness to each other to truly make a difference in someone's day.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead (only three days of school!)

What is Toxic Positivity?
“Toxic positivity is the act of avoiding, suppressing, or rejecting negative emotions or experiences.”
This could look like denying your or someone else’s emotions. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with showing positivity or optimism. However, it is important to explore all of a person's feelings rather than shutting out the difficult ones.
When it comes to our children, it is natural that when they are feeling down, you want to cheer them up. But sometimes, our well-meaning efforts to be positive can have the opposite effect. It’s completely healthy to have “negative” emotions. When we can help our children acknowledge their emotions, it helps them to regulate their feelings healthily.
Check out this week's parenting guide from Big Life Journal on "How To Avoid Toxic Positivity with Your Child" to find tips on validating your child's feelings and helping them move forward when things feel tough.New Teacher to Legal School
Here is a message from Miss Mildenberger:
My name is Amy Mildenberger and I am very excited to be a part of your school community! I’ve taught grade 10, kindergarten, and grade 6, and I have loved it all. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a background in Mathematics and Science.
In my free time, I love to coach, camp, read a book (Colleen Hoover is my favourite author), work out, watch Netflix, or spend time with family & friends. I’m very excited to be a part of your child’s educational journey. See you all soon - Go Titans!
Decodable Books DONATION Grant from GSACS
The funding of this project allows using a variety of decodable texts with high interest. This will allow students to build upon, practice and use their newfound literacy skills. Reading research has identified that student success is enhanced through innovative pedagogy related to the Science of Reading and Scarborough's Reading Rope. The ability to acquire books and resources to support this pedagogy naturally ignites creativity and new ideas among our staff.
We also purchased some high-interest decodable books for our students in Division 2. Decodable text can also be used for students in older grades so that they are successful and confident at reading books that can be decoded quite easily.
Our staff are very passionate in their professional development and devoted to effectively implementing strategies that are research-based to improve student learning and engagement and quite excited to use these new resources.
