WHAT IS PROJECT LIT COMMUNITY?
We are a national, grassroots literacy movement, a team of dedicated educators and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally sustaining books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities. We commit to work together to:
- Empower students as readers, writers, and leaders
- Promote a love of reading in our schools and communities
- Read, discuss, and celebrate books that affirm and value all students
- Develop authentic reading identities by increasing access to high-quality books, building community, and fostering a sense of belonging·
- Connect and collaborate with passionate students, educators, authors, and community members as we support and inspire one another
- Rewrite the narrative about which texts and authors are deemed worthy of academic study
- Amplify voices and stories of students and educators of color
- Advocate for literacy policies and practices that will challenge the status quo
- Champion young people and books that reflect their lived realities, communities, and identities
In our first year our main focus will be giving students access to the Project LIT books and have an after school book club with focus on one book per month. If you have any questions please contact Miss Kiflestadik at fkiflestadik@crschools.us
